So sad that it happened. And almost equally so that so many seem to have forgotten about it--and the days afterwards--by now.
|
I disagree. my circles we all remember it. I'll never forget it. it changed the world.
I actually have to call a coworker-friend. today is his birthday as well. he said his birthday will forever have a darkish cloud for him. I think cake will help. |
I think about it more than I should. Extreme tragedy that joined the country together, felt great to be an American, that's what. I remember. That and driving from Atlanta to SF on Sept 12. Roads were empty wastelands, nothing in the sky, it was eerily quiet all across the country.

every time I talk about one of my favorite cars the 911, it is in my mind.
or when someone asks me what time it is and it is 9:11. it ruined that sequence of numbers forever. |
I'm in Texas, but 90% or more of the folks that I work closely with are based out of NYC, so yeah, many/most of them knew folks.

My office view for most of my career. I've worked on most of the bridges and structures around NYC, and unfortunately had an upfront and good view of the tragedy ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1757619769.JPG Class field trip to Governors Island.. The towers were still under construction, but a prominent part of the Skyline. Out of the 9 kids in that pic.. only 4 of us are left.. and its funny that we took 'boys" and "girls" pics separately ... no one has found the similar "girls" pic. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1757620078.jpg I knew a few people who were lost that day.. My friend Bart worked for Cantor-Fitzgerald.. I don't think to this day they have found any of his remains.. |
I always remember when and where I was on 9/11 and the American people coming together. Little Rocket Man works at one of the WTC buildings and I try not to worry him.
Obviously, I wasn’t there, but 12/7/41 is another date that always reminds me of what happened and Roosevelt’s opening lines on 12/8, "Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy...". |
I remember, but I wish I could forget that date. I lost a dozen people, friends, family and business associates. My company held 3 contracts for the complex. I will not watch the services nor the news today. Nothing brought the severity of the events of that day home to me more than when I left my shop/office all the way on the south side of Brooklyn when one of those "from the desk of" notes landed on my chest half burnt. So many years later I am still in shock. I want to go to the 911 museum but just can't.
|
I have been thinking about this all week. I recall the shock of the news when someone turned on a TV at work, then seeing the clip of the second tower being hit and realizing it was deliberate. I remember images of airliners parked on runways at Canadian airports and stories of travelers who couldn't reach their destinations being taken in by local families.
Later a friend of Middle Eastern origin told me he was on the road to Toronto when the news broke and was afraid he would be racially profiled. I think about the first responders who rushed to the scene in their attempts to save lives. I think about the lives lost. |
Perfectly clear blue sky here, 350 miles from NYC. That day, I was there it was clear blue sky just like today. Seems best I can remember, every 9/11 wherever I have been the sky has been cloudless which is odd for this time of year in NYS.

I remember every little detail of that morning. I was 29 yo. I had to go to court on LI to argue a motion. Before court I stopped at a gas station and vacuumed my car and then went to a deli and got an egg and cheese sandwich and I remember walking in and was amazed at how the place smelled exactly like my elementary school cafeteria and thought it was odd how I haven’t thought about that smell in all those years until that moment. Then I stopped into the county clerks office to pick up a file and the ladies behind the counter were huddled around the TV and said a plane flew into the tower… and then went to court and the judge screamed at me as I sat in the back row with a news paper open - only judge in 30 years of work that ever cared one bit about such things. I remember that motion, what it was about and how I lost it because I was distracted and worried about my fiancé being in the city and how the only time in my career I lied to my boss about my argument I made..he later got the transcript to appeal and saw that I made no such argument…ooops. And the drive home on the LIE under that blue sky and seeing the smoke as I got closer…..on and on……after that, about a week later my life fell apart. No way I will ever forget that horrible day. My lucky day because typically I would have been at the Borders Books at 5WTC getting a coffee and using the bathroom. Luck had me away from that WTC area for whatever reason. Thanks for letting me ramble

One of my thoughts are about my recently deceased pilot buddy, Jim Kiesel...He was scheduled by American to fly a 737 from Boston to L.A. that day, was changing into his uniform that morning when the phone in the hotel room rang, the caller telling him all flights cancelled & to turn on the TV. |

Yea as an officer of the court I am prohibited from making knowingly false statements in court but again, no idea what you are going on about so, like shark tank, I’m out

John start a thread in PARF.
Do not post in thread again. |
I attend our town's 9/11 memorial ceremony every year. Sadly, attendance has fallen off dramatically recently. Of course all first responders were present but the general population attendance was no more than 50 or so people.
However, what really stood out last night was the fact that none of the Boy/Cub/Girl Scouts present last night were alive at the time of the attack but there they were. That at least was encouraging. |
Edit: Then start a thread in f'ing PARF.
Or post here again and watch. |
