tutoring costs?

Got someone elses student asking me to tutor them in a subject I occasionally teach (SQL)

I paid a grad student for chemistry help when 35 years ago, it was $15/hr

What should I charge?

Most students are not financially able to pay fair market value for tutoring, especially if tuition is high. FMV for your tutoring might be around $50/hr; my unsupported guesstimate for your services in light of the above would be about $35-$40/hr..

I am paying an Italian teacher $500 per month for weekly one hour lessons. This is actually 1/2 price as both myself and my spouse do the lessons and she typically charges $500 for just one person. NOT CHEAP. But quality often isn't cheap.

So the question is: Are you doing it for money or to be a good person? Price accordingly.

Welp, gave the kid 30 min of my time... and not sure I want to go down the road of trying to one on one teach someone the entire content of the course (as well as assumed background knowledge he's lacking) when they say "i can't learn by reading, i have to watch videos"

Also emailing the adjunct teaching the course and the dept chair in morning....

What did I do for him tonight? Taught him how to read an error message ....

Premium ai subscription might be a better ROI depending on your learning style.

I was a broke a$$ college student majoring in Comp. Sci. and Quantitative Methods.... I tutored PLENTY of others just as broke (gratis) .... had a Prof ask me if I wanted to formally tutor Boolean Algebra once... HELL naw! I was a star in the computer room, and saw others attempting 370 Assembler logic, etc. on a daily basis... assisting :D.

But I assisted... if you need to be spoon fed... I ain't wasting my time .... or yers ;).

Your call...
