Is my Momo Prototipo Real?
Hello,
I just bought a 1981 370MM Prototipo used. After buying it, somebody made me aware that there are a lot of fakes out there. I did some research and am confident it is real (maybe re-wrapped), but was hoping there is an expert on here that could share their knowledge. If it is real, is it worth anything. The reason I ask is I bought this for my autocross car and don't want to abuse a steering wheel that would be better suited for a collector car, when I could just go buy a new one. Thanks for any help in advance. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1758648174.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1758648174.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1758648174.JPG |

Have you been to momo's site to check? How to Recognize a Counterfeit Steering Wheel |
No research on the seller. Guy seamed really nice, nothing fishy that I could tell. I picked it up at his house so if it’s fake he didn’t know either.
I payed 220 with a 1/2 inch spacer. Yes, I check Momo’s site and found another really good resource that makes me feel confident it is real. As I did my research (after purchasing it) I found out it was made in 1981, which made me start to think it was a fake cause it’s so nice, but from what I can tell it’s real. |
I could be wrong, but the originals were a bit smaller in diameter then the modern "fake" ones. I think the modern ones are still made by Momo? I have a real one in my 72 car, next time I go there, I can measure it for ya.

It’s a real MOMO and that’s the original covering and stitching.

I'm a big fan of using things, like actually driving my car, with an old Abarth, but this I would Lexol and put away and get another. |
Looks real to me! Someone in Marketplace is selling a Proto and I am a little suspect as there was no date stamp on it, the box was a little mangles, and the horn button and trim ring just didn't look right. I'm guessing it was a **** special.

I just sold this Fittipaldi almost instantly so it was priced low at $200 with the hub.

The OP wheel is very nice and as pointed out, definitely not a fake. What car is it in, a Mustang?

It’s in a 91 mustang. It’s a street/auto x car I drive maybe 500mi per year.

Cool.
