Beard Trimmers and hate speech.....

I hate them, I hate them,
and want one that works well!
What works well for you guys?
I need the brain trust vote for an excellent beard trimmer.
Being I have bought several through the years, and so far NONE have been adequate.
I have to gone through a few as the years have passed by.

Note- my beard is I would say average , not like wire or anything.
Right now, it's headed for the trash can, is one Braun #5516
It has never ever worked well.
I am looking at the different ones on the internet,, and it's listed as one of the better ones!
Who pays these people off!
I will think one pass should be enough.
Not 50 over the same place.
Thanks in advance.

Tip: go to a profession; barber or beauty supply. The real deal ones here in CA won't sell unless you have a license. But you can see what they have and maybe source it on your own. Check prices. My wife has kept her license active 40 years after her last job in a salon. So we go to CosmoProf, but they are expensive. Never seen such a selection of product anywhere like they have and if you want gallons, no problem.

For shears, Wahl has always been a good brand but I bet they make a consumer line and a pro line. I know at the supply these things are easily between 1 and $200. For those that use them all day, that's what they buy.

Looking a Google shopping you can get good shears for half that. And there's a lot of junk.

I've been happy with the Wahl 9864 I got a few months ago. The battery lasts a long time and it's pretty heavy duty.

I’ve had a Wahl forever to buzz my (mostly bald) hair and I can’t kill it. I have a Panasonic beard trimmer for my face that I use to keep my stubble orderly and it works great, I think it was $60 on the big A.

Oster makes some really good hair clippers that are good quality and last a long time. With any clipper you have keep it clean and lubricated. I use 3 in 1 oil and lube it about once per month (I use it every 2-3 days)
edit: I use a corded clipper. Cordless are trash.

Years ago we had an Oster. It wasn't bag, but it wasn't good. I have a relatively inexpensive cordless rechargeable Wahl and it seems much better, but I'm talking about generic clippers not specifically beard trimmers.

Beard trimmers are designed to be small and light so not very durable. I like the Oster with adjustable blade height. I can get just the right thickness I need. I take it down to zero to shave the head.

40 year old corded Wahl.

wdfifteen 09-27-2025 05:06 AM

In what way do they, “never work well?”

Read it better or slowly.
Remedial .
Last 3 sentences minus the last one from that

Arizona_928 09-27-2025 05:27 AM

I have the corded wahl clippers (40 dollars from Walmart) to trim the beard. I only get maybe 6 months out of them as i use it a couple times a week to trim the beard down to presentable length.

Sounds like your clippers are dull if it’s taking multiple passes.

Recomended to me by my barber/stylist. She can get it for me a tiny bit cheaper.

She says better than the $20 Wahl I am using now by a long shot.

Go on amazon - Wahl Peanut $65

Maybe it's asking too much for you to state the problem explicitly. I read just fine, it's your writing that is defective. You cover the same area 50 times? That's a really bad razor.

Philips Norelco OneBlade

I agree. All I got out of his post was he doesn’t like his beard trimmer

70SATMan 09-27-2025 09:09 AM

How about remedial writing instead of claiming everyone else can’t read?.

Another vote for the Philips Norelco. I’ve had their MG5750 for several years now. Never an issue. I most often use it without guards taking a two to three week growth down to a minimum stubble. Far faster than a bladed shave. Just enough of a manly appearance.

If I want total clean shave, I’ll follow with a quick safety razor to do my entire face or just to give a clean beard outline.

Keep it clean, oil it periodically. Nice shape, no extra useless gizmos, good battery life off an overnight charge.

When I get my haircut, she trims my beard, and eyebrows as well as my hair. Her beard trimmer has several "guards" that clip on to set the depth so she removes the right amount of beard hair. It is cordless and she makes it look easy.

I could do one pass with my Wahl, but the results look better if I do a few. I don't expect every whisker to make it to the blade through the shallow rake, so I make a few passes, sometimes at a different angle directly in the direction of the whiskers. Not 50 passes- maybe 3-5 and it only takes seconds. My fairly new Wahl 9864 is sharp and doesn't miss anything that reaches its blades.

"Remedial." That's rich. Check out "projection."

50 times over the same place. Turn it around and use the cutting side.

I have the Wahl Peanut. Great tool.
