Anyone have a Byrna ?

Got one? Had to use it? Thoughts? Surprised I haven’t seen a thread on these here

I did post a thread here a while back. I was thinking of getting one for my college age daughter when she moved off campus. Saw too many suspects getting peppered with non lethal, and still charging forward in police videos. She and her roommate opted for aluminum baseball bats. If you go that route, you want something that punctures the CO2 on the first trigger pull.

My college daughter has a taser and pepper spray. If I’m going to get her something that looks like a gun, I’m going to get her a gun.

I'm not sure the wisdom of a non lethal item that looks like a gun. orange or not.

I can't believe the amount of marketing this company can afford, yet I don't know anyone who has one. Hell to the no on this thing. And that's not just because I always have a real gun on me. The risk of total non-efficacy is too great. And even if you put them down, you will be sued by the perp and likely charged by the police for agg assault, if not worse. I don't want the police to ever hear anyone's side of the story other than mine. If someone wants to hurt me, and I can put them down, they ain't getting back up and telling the police anything.

Bought my daughter's some police grade pepper spray. Felt good about that. Me? A very protective dog and a baseball bat and I sleep very well.

How many have a baseball bat and know how to use it in self defense?
Never swing it. Use it in a jabbing motion with your hand cupping the bottom.
I was taught this by someone that broke legs for a living.

There are brands other than Byrna that shoot with twice the kinetic energy and they also sell pepper spray rounds but are not legal in some areas, including CA, of course. Shooting an actual handgun accurately requires much more skill.

This. And the only words that should ever come out of your mouth when the police show up is “They were coming towards me and I was in fear for my life.” No other explanation, just that.

I recommended something like the Kimber Pepper Blaster or similar that fits much better in a purse, looks like what it is and not a firearm and easy to use. Though it only sprays up to 30-40 feet last I checked.

As of 2024, they'd reportedly sold over half a million of them.
