have you ever said HELLO to someone and they SNARL at you in return?

hahahha...damn. I almost took it personal!!

old lady walking her dog near my truck. I gave her a smile and said, "good morning!". she looked at me and effen SNARLED...like made noise and everything.

another lady next to me saw and started laughing...(we fist bumped)

dang, that was entertaining. I'll never pretend to understand what motivates us as individuals. maybe I reminded her of her ex-husband. that was a first!! I've been ignored many many times, but to get such a visceral response, total FIRST!!

hahahha.... could be worse. she could be my neighbor. :D

I was known to growl like a junk yard dawg before coffee...

But naw :D

There are people who are having very bad days sometimes. Can only let it roll off your back. Same person might even come around and apologize at a future date. I have had this happen. It was good closure.

Some people just want to be alone with their thoughts.

Good or bad interaction with them doesn't matter. They treat both the same. I'm kind of that way.

masraum 10-23-2025 05:27 PM

I have a solution. Don't talk to people. Problem solved. :D

Been cursed out for holding a door open for a ratchet female.

One way to handle that...
<iframe width="720" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hrn0px_anZs" title="When you hold the door open and they don't say thank you" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Another slightly more drastic way to handle it.
<iframe width="720" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bSFF7UqCl3M" title="Woman killed after argument over not saying 'thank you'" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Well, another reason not to go into five below.

I had a delta flight where the attendant would loudly state “you’re welcome” if you didn’t say thank you for the free pop/pretzels.

This is what I do.

I wish people would hear me, when I let them from parking lot, Etc in the traffic.

‘Free’?

Yep, old scary white guy here and we are the new lepers of society. Many Karens will not return a simple hello but twenty something girls are particularly repelled. Most completely avoid eye contact but if our eyes actually do meet, they wrinkle up their faces and quickly turn away. Imagine the horror!

My experience, now that I am a gray haired grampy in my 70s, is that I get lots of smiles and have the door held open for me by cute younger females. Three times this fall I had women ask me if anyone suggested I looked like Harrison Ford. Maybe that has something to do with it. :D

My best corporate memories are daze I didn't speak to anyone :D.

I had access (almost no one had), and could always disappear in the "machine rooms", labs, etc. with total access to the hardware consoles, etc. Mainframes and FEP communications, way back when and then IP stuff ... twas a hoot ....

When I was left alone :D

GH85Carrera 10-24-2025 04:51 AM

The real gut punch is when I had a 12 year old hold the door for me! I guess I am looking like a senior citizen, even though I and only 18 in my mind.

And yes, I always say thank you, and hold lots of doors open.

Vash, at least it was not like the scene in Blazing Saddles when the new sheriff walked up to to the sweet looking little old lady in the street and said good morning.

porsche930dude 10-24-2025 05:10 AM

Yeah f*ing weirdos. I mostly just get miffed that they are encroaching upon my town. I wish they would take down the bridge so the weirdos stay in the ghetto on the other side of the river. Just be glad you are not like them

911 Rod 10-24-2025 05:38 AM

Maybe it was because she could read your mind :D

Free soda and pretzels from the flight attendants.

I had a townhouse in the Bay Area that I stayed at when working there. Lots of Eastern Europeans living in the complex. There were numerous times I would say hello to a person walking by only to receive silence in return. I eventually started replying to myself out loud. “ Oh Hello! How are you?”
After that they wouldn’t even look at me. Pretty funny.

vash 10-24-2025 06:38 AM

yea. I cant take any of it personally..

a person doesn't need to thank me if I hold a door open, or let them into the conga-line of traffic.
I only have control of my own ass. :D

I hope I never snarl at anyone..or have reason to. it was an interesting thing. first time for everything

I took a 50lb box of bridge books and mags over to a women's club where mom used to play and supported for a long time. Was told they were desperately wanted there. Bunch of well dressed white women standing around talking and my appearance with a pickup truck in a common t-shirt seemed like a big event. It was after the No K rally but they seemed very protective of their own space. Whatever. I'm just delivering.

I was trying to be friendly at first. "Where can I put these, they are heavy". No response for an uncomfortable pause. The point person kept giving me 'the stare' up and down the entire time. She wanted my full name. Didn't give her own name. I gave it to her, gave my mother's name, and asked "Did you know her?" pleasantly.

How dare I ask her a question. She full teeth sneered and said nothing. Full stare. Didn't give a thanks. I was done.
