Adapting car flasher relay
 

Sons car has no flashy flash for turn signals and hazards. The shared blinky relay is dead.

He pulled the blinker relay and we opened it, joint is busted. I reflowed the solder but couldnt get it to blink. Cap is dead. I could replace cap but… insides had fungus and corrosion, i got the coil to click just fine but i think new is better.

Problem is its a weird mercedes 4 pin relay with a proprietary configuration. Nla and theres one on ebay for $500.

Of the 4 pins only 3 are actually connected to anything inside. Thinking i can rejigger a any regular 3 pin flasher relay and mount it in the weird 4 pin base?

Is this what people do? The charm of an older vehicle?

The socket behind the dash is really in there and works well.

Mercedes Classics in California has every part for ever car ever. They may not be cheap, but you should be able to get one from them.

Jay Leno bought a new window winder switch for he Mercedes 600 that uses hydraulics to run the window winders. It was just $11,000 for the switch!!!

Your relay should be a bit cheaper. I think I would do what you are trying, rig up an adapter. Use the round pins of the old relay, solder on wires to the pins, and get a standard common relay and base and solder the wires to that base. A couple of zip ties, and all done. And use lots of hear shrink tubing.
