I like Steve. He came here once. I was one of 5 people at the show and was thrilled. Steve was not thrilled at the attendance so he never came back. First phish show was 09/27/1991. First of many. The early 90s were so much fun to be a college kid.

I'm running OPNsense on a small bare metal appliance as my firewall/router. It's based on FreeBSD 14.3 if that counts....

"Give me SNA/SDLC or X.25 ... then give me TCP/IP" - same ID10T :D ... the Research Triangle area has always been bleeding in communications research and tech too... it was a hoot working with some of the best over the years.

A 1GB hard drive from 1981, weighing in at 34kg (75lbs) and a price tag of $81,000

I remember when the CD burners first arrived. I could burn a astonishing 640 MB and have it there "forever" they said.

I just burned a CD last week from a ISO file to make a bootable device for a computer that lost the MBR on the hard drives. It was the first CD I have burned in many years.

Yeah, burnable CDs don't last forever, unfortunately.

Keep 'em in the dark ... I've burned Ks of 'em .... audio. Never had any degradation, but never exposed 'em to light. But nothing lasts ... tapes for sure .... but ...

Even all the Maxels I recorded in college, and DATs I recorded/traded 25 years were fine ... until I purged it all recently ... tapes and EVERYTHING tape cassette/beta/vhs/DAT/ along with all the hardware and that beloved Windows PC too :).

Prolly the most expensive piece of audio gear I ever had .... tra$hed it all :D
