Letter and a card. I was surprised at how much traction a letter I sent to the hospital received. I wrote it after my mom passed. She was in the ER in a horrible situation after a fall and had severe dementia. Her memory care place couldn't take her back. They were not equipped to deal with her. I dealt with two social workers and countless nurses, doctors and their hospice team over 5 days. Everyone was amazing, with the exception of the first social worker I encountered. She was so bad. Cold and less than empathetic. Told me to take her home if the facility wouldn't take her back. They were discharging her to someone, NOW. Thank god the other social worker and their hospice folks were willing to work with me. My letter included dates, times, names and much praise for everyone who was so great. I laid out what the 1st social worker told me and the timeline and how disappointed I was to encounter someone so lacking in empathy in a position that should be all about that. I received a long reply indicating they took the feedback seriously and thanked me for being calm and rationale. The response noted the training and feedback she would be receiving.
