Cadillac to enter Formula 1 in 2026
This is something that 5 years ago, I never would have even considered.
Cadillac is entering F1 next year. https://www.cadillacf1team.com/ I love that GM is going racing in support of their game changing lineup of sports cars. The Corvette is on par with exotics, the Camaro has demonstrated amazing times around the ring, and I think this latest effort will showcase their commitment to building exciting cars. Gone is the Cadillac of days gone by where the average age of their owners was ‘deceased’.. |
No new Corvette can be bought with a manual. But Cadillac offers a manual.
As an American, I am glad to see an American car maker enter the field of F1. With two American teams on the grid, it will be a different era. I just hope the Cadillac is not embarrassing. |
And the 24/25 trucks have non replaceable interior door handles. Have to buy the entire door panel. Base model at 378$. Got to pay for that F1 team somehow. GM blows
|
This could be impressive. I certainly applaud the effort and the audacity.

It’s nice to see. But honestly, to me the automotive enthusiast world is on its way to becoming anachronistic. Anything less than 25 years old seems like an appliance to me. Some are really fast, with stunning performance, but they’re ultimately a pile of micro chips on wheels.

F1 is the most technical, computer intensive vehicles on the planet. They record, and transmit a terabyte of information per car back to headquarters. Everything is monitored.
Next year will be even more so with moveable aero bits. They still have no ABS or traction control. One of the gaming platforms allowed the "build" of a F1 car with all the go fast parts possible. The G forces would be more than any human could survive. The 2025 cars pulled over 5 G as it is. And I bet the replaceable door handles on trucks is likely a cost saving during assembly. They should be lifetime use handles, and never need replacement. But what to I know. |
There is one American team in MotoGP but they don't race on an American bike. So, it doesn't really count does it? Cadillac may be interesting.

They will be running a Ferrari engine in 2026. Just saying
They are developing a GM F1 engine..... TBD |

But with Honda supplying engines to Aston Martin for 2026 and beyond I doubt Toyota wants to be left out of the parade . Just think about it , next year Ferrari/Mercedes/Honda/Audi/Ford will have their engines on the grid . GM to join in 2030 . Doesn't it make sense for Toyota to join ? Of course all dependent on world economy at any given point . |
Think it's 2029 for Cadillac racing their own 'Built in the USA' engine
Have a friend who I worked with on the last Honda battery, he's joining the GM F1 PU project, moving to Charlotte, helping him with a VISA reference letter Exciting times for him and everyone working on it, will be a huge mountain to climb, especially on the battery side |

I can't imagine F1 to be relevant in 2030. I think its "Use by... date" will be expired. So will mine.

Honda left Feb 22, so RB took the brave decision to do their own PU, Honda rejoined mid-2023, Ford are supporting RB
Renault are gone as Viry shutdown their F1 program late this year, Alpine will be powered by Mercedes next year So there will be, Mercedes powered Alpine Ferrari powered Cadillac Honda powered Aston Martin Done 5yrs of Honda F1 battery design, on old gen battery and new larger 2026 spec battery Have worked on/in the design of every area of a F1 car (except inside an engine cylinder head or block or tyre) Battery is easily the most complicated, difficult to design area by far Consequences of a failure inside a lightweight box full of lightweight high voltage, fragile electronic parts with numerous liquid cooled channels which is all bolted to the chassis just in front of a high vibration ICE and under a many litres of fuel certainly focuses the mind Would love to help Cadillac as they won't fully understand what they're walking into with the battery but not sure I could take that level of stress/worry for a 3rd time :( |
Kind of a "whose on first?" schlimazel with regards to power units.
As far as relevance, that ship sailed long ago. So what? Top Fuel isn't altogether relevant either, but I'll still attend every race I can. |
I bet having GM in F1 will reignite (ingnite) passion for F1 with a certain market segment that loves their Chebby trucks.
NASCAR has changed from pure racing to a series of sprint races within a race and ‘playoffs’… I think F1, despite its rule set, will be more popular in the US with General Motors (Cadillac) involved. I doubt they will be competitive out of the gate but give them 5 years… |
I think we have seen F1 peak as a spectator sport. There was an artificial level of interest generated by Drive to Survive that I'm already seeing going by the wayside with friends and family who are not necessarily motorsports fans. Even with some who do consider themselves to be fans of some forms of racing. It's just too "esoteric"or "cerebral" or something.
The most common complaint I hear is the "lack of racing". Same as it ever was... Granted, nothing could be further from the truth, but one is required to be a bit more knowledgeable about and committed to the sport to see the "racing" when the car that gets through the opening corners in the lead wins the majority of races. That's not going to retain the football fans, the baseball fans, nor even many NASCAR fans for that matter. The time for Cadillac to have gotten in was five, maybe even ten years ago. When the F1 fanbase settles back down to its natural water level, I think a lot of new investors are going to be disappointed. Of course there is always Liberty Media. When viewership starts to dwindle, look for them to attempt all manner of artificially induced "excitement ". Debris cautions here we come. I hope I'm wrong. |
