Alright! . . .MY NEW TATOO!

Kidding, of course.

When did CatWoman get collagen injections?

. . .and a sword? I could see a dagger, maybe. Did she hook-up with Zoro?

I'm just an old-school guy, I guess. I like Isabo's cat woman.

is the bottom of the screen supposed to be an ode to Mystery Science Theater?

Oh, come now C.J.

At the bottom of the screen are silohuettes of some of the oldest Looney Tune characters - dating back to the '30s. They're supposed to be in a theater, watching what the viewer is watching, but on a movie screen.

The Dodo is the one who essentially takes you through the intro of the web site.

You do remember the Dodo, right?

Sounds like MST3K to me.

It kind of has that futuristic "Cat woman goes to Mars" thing going on.

dd - What characters do you work on?

I don't personally work on the characters as far as draw them. Our business recreates classic scenes in which the characters appear. In most cases, the artwork is already finished, as we specialize in original production cels from actual cartoon footage. We also create limited editions, which are also adapted from original artwork.

We work exclusively with Looney Tunes characters, DC Comics as well as Hanna Barbera.

The Jim Balent "Catwoman: White Wedding" is adapted from the cover of an original DC Comics release, entitled "The Cat Files." If you think this artwork is good, the comic book has some outstanding creativity inside it.

Well, according to the writers on that show, it was by far Brain. Brain's character was continually thinking, plotting, imagining: he was tireless. Pinky was complacent and at ease in his surrounds, i.e. a cage with a "treadmill" for lack of a better word.

The real question is who, as the characters evolved, was "insane." Remember, these two were ancillary characters from "The Animaniacs," and soon became more popular than the stars of the show. Anyway, Brain by far, is insane - displaying perfect irony without even knowing so. Pinky, meanwhile, was the much more level-headed character. Brain, for example, exhibits Rube Goldberg-like talents that are half-assed and poorly put together - some plots work, some don't. Eventually, they all fail, perpetuating his obsession to escape and rule the world. Pinky simply wonders why any of this needs to happen, or tends to figure out a much easier solution to Brain's more complex wonderings.

This line sums up Pinky for me: "Brain, if Jimmy cracks corn and nobody cares, why does he keep doing it? Poit!"

Perfect Pinky; puts Brain on the spot. Out thinks the lead character - I love it!

BTW: I'm not sure "poit!" is the correct spelling of Pinky's trademark idiosyncratic "noise" that he utilized throughout the series. It's been a while since I've read those scripts.

And speaking of scripts, to show you the work that went into a single P&B episode, the average animation script for 20 minutes is 20-25 pages - a minute a page. Pinky and Brain had so much dialogue and so little action, those scripts were easily 45-50 pages. The voice talent on that show definitely got a workout!

Oh, that's perfect!

Now, in the light of this being a cartoon. . .and that a "multiple stability in perception" exists in most all the good ones; have you considered that Pinky is actually a simple genious? . . . He's always entertaining and steering the Brains plots back to a safe, and ineffective conclusion, while feigning stupid simplicity?

You see, Pinky, being the generous type who understand the more important worldly things, sees Brains never ending need to be chasing the dream of "Ruling the WORLD!" So, Pinky, plays along with Brains need to feel superior, and "accidentally" does things that undermine (and guide) event to a safe conclusion.

. . ..or is it simply the writers that make it all work out in the end?

Anyway, great toon.

Well, Brain does drive an SC.

He has to use really long legs and arms, like he did when he played Billy Bo-Bob Brain, the country music star.

The name of the episode escapes me at the moment.

Well with established cartoon characters (and other mediums where characters have set rules), there are parameters within which the writer can work.

For instance with Animaniacs - they have very specific rules that date back to Bugs Bunny. As you can see in any of those characters, they never instigate action. Something has to happen to them. "Hello Nurse," kisses Wacko on the nose. She's the instigator or as could be seen, the antagonist. Wacko goes ape-**** wild for Hello Nurse - he's been engaged into action. The same goes for Bugs and Elmer Fudd. Elmer "started it" is a great way of looking at how these characters interact. If done contrary to this, you have a mean-assed rabbit no one would like i.e. a Daffy Duck in long ears and a cotton tail, and in the case of Animaniacs, angry little puppy-head freak children who crouch in the Warner Bros water tower thinking of ways to terrorize the studio.

Pinky's brilliance is two-fold. He is comic relief for us, the audience, because Brain's antics go from one single obsession to two levels. He has to contend with his obsession and Pinky at the same time, both of which afflict him. Pinky he controls with some sort of head-bopping violence or a drab dose of dialogue that gets the reaction "poit!" But what Pinky is really doing is controlling Brain, making him feel superior but all the while causing a self-styled genius to "pay attention" to a certifiable nutcase lab mouse.

Look at it this way: in one episode Brain "lost" Pinky. He ended up being a homeless lab mouse living out of a dollhouse-sized shopping cart. Misery. Funny, but misery.

In another sense, Brain would be just plain boring without Pinky around.

I think it would make a great back piece for Isa as she has some original Catwoman art from old DC comics on our office wall!

OMG...that would have been hilarious to see that episode. I told my husband about this thread and he started laughing.

Just to be funny...sometimes we call our dogs their names with "bob" added to the end. Bailey-Bob...Spanky-Bob....

Can you post some of the DC Comics art? That'd be cool to look at.

What we have on the wall are mostly colour copies of old covers. I'm pretty sure Isa has scans on computer as well. As soon as I'm back at galactic headquarters I'll check and post. Isabo, her husband, daughter and me are all old comic buffs.

Doesn't sound like "poit" to me...I'll have to subject an audio clip to my Ultrazoidal Detransmogrifier and Frappe device to see.

Brain is not insane, merely misunderstood.

The show is very easy to understand...Pinky takes his meds, Brain doesn't.
