It'd be a step up from the Jetta.

Eric, I completely agree with you regarding the Vanagon's. They don't seem to be in the running as a tow vehicle. On the other hand, the last few years of Eurovan's came with 201HP VR6 engines and the vehicle's are rated for towing a 4400# load. I just exchanged emails with a couple of fellow Pelican's who successfully used 2001 and later Eurovans to pull their early 911s. They both had good things to say about it. This is the direction I'm leaning. Once again, thanks for the comments / advice!

LOL Pari! The "pimped out" Jetta (GLI) stays!

Jim, for $20K I saw two '95 full camper Eurovans on the classifieds page of GoWesty.com. I'd go that route, provided you could confirm the towing capacity is there. If you got a multivan and then rigged it with half-a$$ camping gear, you'd just wish you'd gotten the real thing in the first place.

jimbo,

I'm too lazy to read this thread and see if it was mentioned, but when I'm old and nearing death like you, I plan on traveling around in this...

Jim, I had forgotten about another optyion, the Vanaroo. Read about it here: It may solve the towing problem very nicely.

Thanks Charlie. It's interesting to see all of the engine swap options available for the Vanagon.

I snapped the pic. To suggest that the evening got weird as the booze started to flow would be an understatement.

Great, us ageing rock stars require hot tubs in our travel vans.

BTW, nice pic of Jay's "friends," Bernie.
