who still has their tonsils?
i still have my tonsils, was scheduled to have them out as a kid but missed the appointment and never had them out. i'm fine and this leads me to believe that this surgery is mostly unnecessary and just recommended to make money for the doctor.
my niece is 3 years old and just had them out. no symptoms, sickness or anything... i'm thinking that she really didn't need them out... so i'll be really skeptical when the doc says my daughter has to have hers out... :) help me gather data |
After having a quince removed as an adult I was told I had to come back to have my tonsils removed. I was told this was usual practice after removal. I put it off and never had it done. I since learned that there is often a very good case for not removing tonsils as they are functional and removal frequently achieves nothing.

Doctors, just out to take money!? . . .say it ain't so. ;)
"no symptoms, sickness or anything" Yikes! I'll just say, EVERY profession has it's share of scammers, incompetents, bottom of the barrel. . . BTW, I hear it's much easier to get in to med school than vet school. hmmm; not as sharp. . .but at least they're much more expensive. |
Youre supposed to have them removed? I've never had mine removed. Is my head going to swell and explode like that guy in the movie Scanners?
|
actually I think there is some data about better immune response as an adult if you have your tonsils. Still have mine.
|
Heh, I have too much immune response. Maybe I should have my tonsils removed.
|
If you're supposed to have them taken out God wouldn't have put em' there in the first place...
|
I did not have mine taken out as a kid. However when I was 21 I kept getting throat infections and had to have my tonsils removed. Let me tell you, what is a minor operation for a small kid with small tonsils, becomes much more involved and painful when they become adult sized.

used to get strep throat 2 times a year until I was 18, Doc never advised I get them removed. Since meeting my wife (at 18) I have gotten Strep just once in the past 12 years.
What is that saying..... I have no idea but I still got my tonsils |
I still have mine, but I've had my tongue removed. I think the doctor missed. :(

Island: you're right! It's been there all the time! :) I just misplaced it!
Now if you guys will excuse me, I have about three decades worth of female "requests" to fulfill. SmileWavy |
I had them out, howvere last time I had a flu, my throat was like razor blades.
doc said your tosils are inflamed. I said "no I dont have any" he said, apparently when they remove your tonsils they kinda scrape them out and you "can" get some remanents even some re-growth. dont ask Im not a doctor, but beleive me at times and only when I get a bad flu, it feels like a got a fistfull of razor blades back there ! |
I lost my tonsils as a kid AND had another unnecessary minor opp' but lets not go there.
