Thumbs up got a new project today

got a free boat today........15' fiberglass.....AND had a 75hp chrysler outboard laying in it
i have a 70hp johnson that i'll be using for it along with all new hardware/steering i pulled off my old boat, my father's going to pull it up to his property on the allegheny this week so i can rebuild it there.
i figure i need to put around 60 hours in it and she'll be in the water......that translates to 3-4 weekends of going there to work on it.....WHICH is a fun 3 hour drive in my 911

she doesn't look like much right now but the hull is damn near perfect.............i will need some advice for a cool paint job.........gotta be different you know.
i'm thinking flames

Cool

I didn't know you liked boats that much.. you should live around here. then work your way up the food chain as an un-paid mate. that's the game I've been playing with a buddy since we were kids. these off shore guys around here can't find the right guys to be their baby sitters.. some of them don't want to do anything but drive the boat and drink.. and put their kid a pole attached to a tuna or shark.. we got a relatively new 3 year owner who can't even learn the game.. I'm supposed to take his boat out to get the itty bitty feel for the wheel wednesday.. like walking it side ways. then he's told to move over when a real fish is hooked.. either that or he'll cause us to lose the fish.. and you have already been profiled as a "ghandi" on that other pelican thread.. you could be know as ghandi bell.. ding dong the fish is over HERE, while you point your finger.. I'm serious

i never got into fishing.........back in the day i did alot of trout fishing with my dad.......quality time, but just never got into actually fishing.
BUT anything with a motor and makes lots of noise is fun
i took the "little boat" out when i was on vacation with 2 girlfriends of mine.......the 5 hp "dingy" didn't cut it, i want something that'll cruise 30-40 knots (which won't be any problem) and reflects me .......expect to see a few porsche parts end up on it
i'm going to remove the floor and rebuilt it with added braces to make it stronger........then going to reglass/cloth everything inside..........then paint..........then rig and put it in the water.
i have absolutely everything i need from when i gutted the old boat.

ron what marine quality paint should i use? the cheaper the better but i want it to last

That's awesome, Bell! A FREE boat!

You'll have to keep us posted as you go. And get a (Mike Z-style) tow-hitch for the targa!

In a fast centerboard sailing dinghy, the difference between sailing & swimming is...oh, about 5 seconds. I miss my 15' Chrysler Mutineer...
