Baja II - Run for the boarder!

For those not following the 914 Board, I'm heading up a run from So Cal to Ensenada and return through Tecate. We will take advantage of twisty curvy roads on both sides of the boarder.

Everyone is welcome! It's Labor day weekend, down Saturday and return Sunday to avoid the Long weekend boarder issues.

Anyone interested, hotel rooms are going fast.

Details are here:

I have a question for those of you who frequently take your cars way south of the border.

In the past before I bought the porsche I have spent a lot of time in Mexico south of Hermisillo on the west coast where I have some friends and family.

Now that I have the porsche I would love to take it down there but I know most major insurers do not cover your vehicle once it is more than 50 miles past the border.

Does anyone know of any companies without the exception or anyone who offers supplimental insurance for such a situation?

Actually, your insurance is no good once you cross the boarder, definitely as far as Mexican authorities goes.

Anyway, GNP sells insurance on a daily basis and it can be full coverage. AAA sells GNP insurance and you can get it before you get anywhere near the boarder. You can also buy insurance at several places just before crossing the boarder, look for the signs about 2-3 miles from the boarder, or just after you cross the boarder. It's far easier to do it before crossing.

Depending on the car, runs around $20 a day. A full year can be had for $300 or so. I'm moving that direction.

A couple of places actually let you do the coverage over the internet....
