That first picture made me think of how I feel when I'm on an airplane. :D

Sarah, I used to fly overseas every 3-4 months, and always in coach. :( On more than one occasion, I felt like the little guy in that pic, too. Those flights seemed like they'd never end.

I once had a job translating mimes...

Jim - Hardly ever do I get my whole seat to myself and I can usually forget about the arm rest too. :)

DD...you are kidding right???

I used to work as a parking lot attendant on game days near a college stadium. No enforcement power, had to call local PD to ticket or a tow company.

"Hey - you can't park here... move it or I'll tell you that you can't park here again!"

For those of us who fly way more then is humanly tolerable.... we call that "leakage" and it usually comes with a 5+ hour flight and a smell that makes me gag just thinking about it.....

Sarah 08-27-2003 09:23 AM

The worst ever was when I had a big guy next to me with a cold and he kept making snif noises but wouldn't blow his nose.....I thought I was going to explode. I was like..."do you need a kleenex? No, I'm OK"...and I'm thinking....No your not ok because you're driving me CRAZY. :)

I've flown 2-3 flights a week for the last 9 years. Based on that experience, I LOVE driving. :D

Sarah: in L.A., you'd be surprised what you can do to make money in ritzy areas, especially on the West Side, where people line up for blocks to see the latest foreign film they never understand, but sum it up with "Great lighting!" or "Well edited!" whatever that means.

But sure: mime translation's big, because mime is sidewalk entertainment, along with three-card molly, catch-the-dwarf, shock the monkey and our latest import, but not brushfire friendly, fire breathing. As for mime translating, well, the translator splits the profits fifty-fifty with their "silent" partner, if you know what I mean.

One has to be innovative out here. Just this week, there was a woman in the news who makes $150,000 a year walking dogs. I kid you not.

dd...that was interesting. It also shows you how much I don't know about LA. I've only been in the airport for stop overs. Maybe someday i'll actually see the wide variety of your mentioned employment opportunities. :)
