Or you recognize that the vast majority of people would disagree with your definition, but they are all just wrong and you're right?

I'm not sure what the vast majority would say but I do know this: My definition, THE definition, of art would not change by popular vote. Assuming the vast majority prefers the narrow definition you apply.

Between your post and this one, there were several posters who offered some interesting images. I assume you would dismiss some of them as not being art. But the posters recognized their emotive value.

What is art? What is NOT art? There have been art projects, as art projects, widely reported, where lots of people (You too, I assume) said "That's not art." But........it was the work of an artist, in the middle of a desert, with no other purpose than the artist expressing himself. He creates a visual "thing" with no practical value. And people still say "That's not art." Incorrect. It is art. Perhaps that person does not like it, but it is art.

I think we're still driving piston engine vehicles because of art. It doesn't make sense. If we were not in love with cars, the way they are, we would have sought and found a number of alternatives. It's not logic that keeps piston engine cars as a central piece of our personal lives. We like them. They are comfortable to us. We send messages to others by our choices. We are expressing ourselves in our motoring decisions.

Again, it would be far easier to identify what is NOT art than what is art.

This is something I created for a project on another website today. I've been hesitant to post it because I know a few will object to it. But the question is:

Is it art?

first off it's far from art. it's not graffiti. It's visual terrorism.

second, Tar and feathers would be about the right punishment for this crime.

or if the creeps that defile someones property own a car. The victem should be allowed to create "ART" on the creeps car.

I have zero respect for any of this. In Los Angeles and the surrounding area you canot go to a decent resturant with out some nutsack licker's scribbled crap on the mirror.

This mess helps fuel race issues. It is costly to repair items damaged by these twerps. let alone the ecological damage from the chemicals.

snipers should be allowed to fire paint ball rounds at these scourges.

Yes. Again, art is sometimes not pretty. A very high proportion (perhaps all of us, frankly) of us are unaware of the true ratio of rationalism in our lives versus expressionism. Society is not shaped this way because it makes sense. It is shaped this way because that's how we like it. We think we behave rationally, with the occasional act of irrational expression. In reality, it is just the opposite.

Go argue on another thread. This one is for pics!:mad::mad:

Banksy's work is a little different than some kid tagging a wall. I surprised by the number of grumpy old men, shaking their canes at the world, that reside on this board.
