It is a US Navy Reserve Patrol Aircraft Squadron based in New Orleans, LA. They fly the Lockheed P-3 Orion aircraft, which is a land-based, long range platform developed mostly for ASW (anti-submarine warfare).

VP-94 squadron members are informally known as "Crawfishers" and in the logo, look near the bottom and you'll see the, um, "mighty" crawfish snapping a submarine in half.

I miss me some SCOTs and all those Southern bands they don't play up here in DC. I miss Drivin' n' Cryin' the most, but I got all the good albums.

Snapping a submarine in half? lol, sure they would, if they could ever _find_ us! The only time a P-3 pilot could find a submarine is if he was at the pier! How's the old expression go? From the submarine to the P-3: "Sure we'll poke a little more of our mast out of the water, just as soon as you poke a little more of your landing gear _into_ the water." lol, silly aviators.

Hey bubblehead, it's a good thing all they had to do was drive the bus. That's why the actual boat hunt was done by us AWs, more specifically, us *acoustic* AWs.

We let the rocks from "A" school work as scopedopes and run the FLIR.

Okay, I'll admit there was this one time tried to pickup some hot bouys from a Viking who'd been tracking a Type III Yankee in transit, but we were too late on station. We plotted a narrow fence pattern, but the sonobouys got dropped too late. So, instead, we managed to find and record a nice, fat blade signature of US fast attack *trying* to hide in the Yankee's wake!

It was sure a laff riot for us punk reservists and our TACCO was more than happy to call in on the Batphone. "Um, Lima Zulu 94, terminate and return" was the order. WTF? We got back, and my first hint there was something going on was they parked us close, up by the regnav fleet aircraft, and two jeeps with Jarheads and M-16s circled our plane. I was told by the skipper to "skip postflight" and collect everything I had and get on deck ASAP. When I walked into the ASWOC, I saw more scrambled eggs than I'd ever seen before, and most of 'em were not aviation types. After a four-hour debrief, I finally got back to the BEQ, my roomie was gone. "Oh, yeah" I was told, "Jerry was on the ready crew today, and they launched two hours ago....he said something was up; they had to fly a bunch of documents back to DC?" I smiled. Yep, I guess there would be some embarassed bubbleheads wondering how some reserve brownshoes caught 'em in open water.

Oh well, time for some cold beer, local girls, and clean sheets. Maybe some liberty on the beach would be nice. Did I mention aircrew gets flight pay and double-rats?
