My 40 year old SVEA 123 white gas stove still works perfectly!

i love thse old stoves...my blowtorch stove gets a couple workouts a year too.

i have several other more modern backpacking stoves but is seems the ol' SVEA gets to come out to the backcountry most of the time.

which pot is that? i have a set of old peak-one nesting pots that are getting pretty beat up. would sure like to find something that the SVEA will fit inside of better.

Ted,
It's a Snow Peak Titanium Trek 700 Mug I found on sale at REI about a year ago... pricey but very nice. The SVEA just slips into the cup upside down and sticks out about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. The base of the stove is just barely too big to go in.

I love the semi helicoper sound my old stove makes at full rip, brings back lot of good memories!

WOW! Add a little dirt and grime and you would not be able to tell the difference between reality.

I have no idea if this is true....

On the Winnipeg River (90 km NE of Wpg)
Good reason not to go swimming

Here's a fish fry for ya.....

This is the new record in Canada .
He caught it on the Winnipeg River, by the Seven Sisters power plant , in Manitoba.
Check this thing out. The last picture is unbelievable. This guy was fishing and caught a 36lb Pike.
As he was reeling it in, a 56 lb. Pike tried to eat it. He brought them both in on the same net.
Awesome catch on a river in Canada 55 lbs, 56 inches. It goes to show you that live bait works
the best for the giant fish.

Cool. That's Jack Ruby on the gee-tar. And the singer; I think he's the guy who's in the resident band at Shooters.

The phenomenon is called "stepped leader". You are not looking at it backwards but all you see happens in miliseconds before the actual strike (where the spark first lands) I'm not an expert but I believe this is the way the lightning bolts searches/finds its actual path (the one of least resistance). The proces happens in "steps" of about 50 to 100 meters.
(Wikipedia if you need more info)

Thanks G-Man, this is so cool !!!
The last lightning storm I was in was crazy !!! My friend hid inside the boat next to a tree while me and the others stayed in the water... only our heads sticking up !!!
I've always heard, "stay out of the water" but the only deaths I've heard of were always under shelter....

I had a lightening 'shock' in a lake when I was a teen. I would leave the water next time if I were you.
