Joe, what's it like pounding out the miles across the USA in one of those? Is it tough on the old backbone, buttbone, neckbone, etc.?

And in the summertime, too... without A/C, is it a struggle to balance adequate hydration with adequate whizzer breaks?

Sweet, Glen... but how did you manage to have these two... "POSITIVLY NO SMOKING" and "GRAND Funk"... so close to each other?

I would think that one of them would spontaneously combust because of incongruity if you know what I mean.

It was actually easy. I hand built a tube chassis raising the body, moving the seats rearward, stretched the body for more leg room, bought some real comfortable aftermarket seats, double roll caged the buggy and it turned out heavy at 2000 pounds. Aired the tires for 15 pounds Front and 18 pounds rear. Very smooth ride. Enlarged the fuel tank to 13.5 gallons, but we stopped every 2 hours for fuel and to stretch as a group. I built a 2165 cc VW Air Cooled based engine for enough torque to pull the mountains with ease. In 5984 miles in 18 days, I averaged 21.6 MPG.

For the heat, we bought the SPF High Tech cooling clothing and in the Deserts used the Frog Toggs cooling rags around the neck/chest and it wasn't that bad. The hail we ran through in between Gunnison CO and Page AZ did take us by surprise.

I went on a off road run in CA and the dust was horrible. When I made it back to WV, I still had dust on the top of the roll cage inside the buggy.

Best trip I have ever made in my life, and if I can afford it next year, I will do it again. We will run the northern route through MI, WI, MT, ID, OR, WA and then south on the PCH to Big Bear Lake next year.

At the Cadillac Ranch. I had some fun there. "ECVW" stands for East Coast Visits West. That was the name of the Manx Club sponsored trip.

Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....

Placerville is a nice little town. I go there a lot because Marshall Hospital is a customer of mine. Love Sweetie Pie's for breakfast.

I work with a local architect here who does a lot of similar designs - he's a bit eccentric at times but extremely talented. Sometimes it takes years and years for someone like that to open up to your ideas and input but when it happens it makes you feel pretty good. Overall I let them have their way - it's easier and usually turns out fine.

Oh yeah, on those job, we just do, mistake or not. that's ok, I have lots more hair to loose, but a Greene and Greene made me work for my money a few years ago. Still, those jobs are lots of fun.

To the left of him, there is a sliding door that runs at a weird cure all the to the ceiling LVL. I built that stupid door on the job that has a matching veneer on all the panels. There's a 1/16" gap on the edge of this funky curves when its closed.

The slate floor has been cut from some tile factory. Every 8"x8" is the very same pattern. It looks random, but it isn't.

this is what it should have looked like at one time. I think I like the new stuff better. That whole entire panel is new. All book matched Ash.
