Pontiac, Mopar, Ford, whatever ..... Anybody notice that the average Solstice driver is a 60-70 year old white male with a baseball cap? I wonder if that was GM's target market.

Really? I'd have guessed hairdressers.

I'm sure the follow up shots are very hard to look at.

This is only a couple of weeks old, taken during a recent exercise. The beauty of the whole thing is that they never saw us coming. Having that kind of power over an aircraft carrier is a real ego trip.

We were close enough to get the below shot without being spotted.

What about the (several?) subs running screen for the carrier and its group? How did they miss you?

Thom:

What's the story on the Kharmann(?) ? Restoration or hot rod? That is the one additional German car I've half a chance of getting my wife to sign on for, she loves 'em.

Good question. When the other US boat gets back in, I plan on dropping by to figure out where they were. My suspicion is just that they were in the wrong piece of water -- we can be pretty tough to find, when we want to be. The same is true of the other US boat, BTW -- we had no contact with her the entire exercise.

It's an April '56 Karmann Ghia I picked up back in May for $1500. It was 95% complete, only missing soft stuff like seat covers, door panels and headliner.

I'm finding that these early (aka "lowlight") ghias are not for the faint of heart or wallet to restore - at lot of funky one or two year-only stuff.

It even runs! http://66.34.72.138/56kg/ghia-drive.mpg
