And back then they didn't care what kind of job it was, no work was beneath them.

When WWII ended my grandfather was discharged from the seebees in San Diego.

His wife and young daughter (my mom) were there to meet him, but they only had enough money to make it to Tucson.

So he got a job on the railroad fixing cars and such.
There was an old caboose in the yard and they lived in it for 6 months until he had earned enough money to get on the road again.

6 months in an old caboose, in Tucson in the summer, no AC...... no plumbing ..... they were allot tougher then.

It just wasn't fair, was it?

They are pretty tough now, too, btw. Picture we took last weekend. My son with his "Rat", who is on a Marine ROTC scholarship to VMI.

There is good among us.

It was fair, everyone had to deal with the same challenges. My grandparents started out as poor and uneducated dust bowlers, migrants.
They did the best they could with what they had, without expecting others to give them hand-outs.

By the time my grandfather died they owned a pretty good chunk of land near a major university.
Two large apartment complexes, 3 houses, and several vacant lots.

Then my low-life progressive uncle helped my grandmother sell everything off and spent all her money on HIM, eventually putting her in a home with little more than her SS left.

THAT was unfair, but he DESERVED that money and was ENTITLED to it.

My paternal grandfather worked for Armor & Company. He said one day they had a company meeting and everyone was told they would only get 1/2 the hours. They did not have enough work to keep the employees busy so everyone had the pain of 1/2 the hours. They raised vegetables on some land they rented. They could sell the crop at the local farmers market. They lived in a one room house that they bought for $50. No running water, no electricity. It was just like my storage shed only I have electricity for lights in my shed.

My maternal grandfather was real lucky. He worked for the Post Office so he did not worry about getting laid off and they were very middle class.
