Leather medal with wooden string?

Did he really say that?? The MBE has no leather and no wood.

All the Beatles received the medal in 1965, which entitled them to a payment of forty pounds a year and free admission to the Whispering Gallery at St. Paul’s Cathedral (ordinarily about a shilling). The Beatles were somewhat mystified as to why the Queen was honoring them, but generally cheerful about the notion. As Ringo Starr put it, “We’re going to meet the Queen and she’s going to give us a badge. I thought, ‘This is cool.'”

The Beatles’ parents were pleased; the group largely forgot about their medals, although Harrison and Paul McCartney later used theirs as jacket decorations at the Sgt. Pepper photo shoot. Lennon gave his to his beloved Aunt Mimi, who hung it over her mantelpiece.

“Lots of people who complained about us getting the M.B.E. received theirs for heroism in the war,” said John, “They got them for killing people. We got ours for entertaining. I’d say we deserve ours more.” - John Lennon

Shows how effed up person he really was. Those other people got their medals risking their lives to protect their country and fellow countrymen. He got what he deserved.

He got the first half right:

Pretty sure John Lennon did not deserve to be murdered. The MBE medal is typically not a military medal but one that is awarded for service to a country. He generated a lot of tax revenue and made people happy by entertaining them and that's why they got the medals. Military people who die in service are protecting our rights to free speech. He may have exercised those rights so to say he should be murdered for doing so does not make a lot of sense does it?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446769956.jpg

He was an extraordinary lucky, however flawed individual and certainly no hero.

he had a good run and met up with fate. end of story.
