Had a buddy break his SingRay frame, Old Ramey at the bike shop got him a new one no charge.
Ramey let me make payments on mine when I was about 12.

Seriously? I good pair of Levi's was my only safety gear!

I also had the flexi frame 20" Schwinn, ran it down dirt hills, bounced it off curbs, once I jammed my tennis shoe in the front forks and catapulted myself...
Good times... good times...

No, I remembered my 4 bong loads of Maui Wowie before putting the 4' 2x4" over the three stacked cinderblocks. Helmet??? In 1974, we didn't need no stinking helmets!

I LOVED that stick shift model. Single mother couldn't afford one and I never got a clean chance to steel one. You must have been RICH!

When I was young my dad would go to the local dump and pick through the pile of old bikes and pick up a wheel for a quarter, handlebars for a dime. etc. He'd build junk bikes for my three brothers and I, that was the best he could afford and we tended to tear them up as fast as he could fix them.

Then, at Christmas 1972 my younger brother and I got brand new stingrays.
Don't know where they got the money, but that was the best Christmas ever.

He got the blue one and I was stuck with the yellow one but we all know yellow stingrays are faster (YSAF).

I just figured out what sux:
Working 7 days a week, and having another hour of work to go before you get to fight traffic for 55 minutes to get home, and the alarm on your phone says "Alarm is set for 9 hours and 15 minutes from now".

Three sons in our family and one year my parents said each of us could have whatever bicycle we wanted for our birthday. Probably the most extravagant birthday present we were ever given.

We were middle class but my folks stretched their dollars and lived very conservative lifestyles so their kids could have stuff once in a while.

Those are some cool aerial shots, Craig!

I had a gold stingray in 69 like the picture above. It was stolen after I left it in the front yard. Worked a paper route, saved my money and bought a green one in 70.

Still have in the garage.

Yeah, wanted one real bad as well and Christmas morning found the Sears single speed version, complete with 20" iron mag rear wheel, 16" front spoke wheel, and shift lever parking brake (still had a coaster brake too) siting under the tree. Didn't work too well for delivering newspapers and couldn't jump a ramp very well with that heavy rear wheel.

Broke a few Columbian Workhorse (newspaper bikes) frames when I tried to convert them for dirt riding back in 74. Man, I should have followed through on that idea and maybe folks would be riding DLGs instead of Gary Fishers!
