Ron... here's the cactus!

Ron,

I figured this was the easiest way for you to see the area I mentioned in the PM. The spot where the Trooper is parked would be a great place to camp. It's very near the end of the Apache Trail near the Roosevelt dam. The only problem is that I don't think a 911 (or any 2 wheel drive vehicle for that matter) could climb out of this hole! It was pretty steep and rutted.

If I had been thinking I would have noted the lat/long coordinates on the GPS for future reference.

yep.. I remember the area with the lake.. that north end of the trail is brutal.. I was hopeing for the south end.. thanks for thinking of me..
Arizona is a great area of the US.. I do these loops from the SW to the NW a few times on my rides.. as soon as the sleeping bag gets soaked it's time to dry out in the SW..

My sisters were just here from the east and we went all over AZ. It is amazing how much the landscape changes here as you drive around. Sedona is really unique if you're ever out this way.

My friend Colette & her hubby live in Chandlar & they have gone all over AZ too getting to know the state. They just got a digital camera and sent me a couple pics from their last hike. They have two dogs but this one is Vixen. They are training her as a therapy dog.





Here is another cool picture from my sister's patio. I tried to center camel back mountain between their two little trees. They have an awesome view.

I passed thru on I-17 a FEW times on the last ride.. there is Dead Horse Ranch S.P. , that is a few miles west of Sedona.. but I was afraid to go exploring without local knowledge in a 911 w/N.Y. plates.. I usually swap stories at the campgrounds around a fire to get info.. then again sometimes I'm the only one there, because my rides are pre tourist season.. it's LOL when your alone in the mountain camps and find cougar tracks.. then I have to redo my attire for the possible dance.. no problem, if it can beat me it can eat me, LOL..........Ron

Perfect.. that's what I want.. that's local knowledge stuff.. you've been there.. the Chapel is a done deal..
I did Frank LR outside Phoenix, and Falling Water in Penn. I take Frank seriously.

. and I added the sites to the 2 you already gave me.. red rocks is OK to eyeball.. but hanging w/them, without a stream or forest is an overnighter..

I got a wild pic of me with a beatifully strange piece of red rock/sandstone/whatever.. maybe I should send it to your e-mail.. in all due respect to the females.. I'm fully legal in the pic.. it's the rock that creates the illusion...

I have an idea of where to go outside Tucson.. but Sarah, "they have gone all over" is the potential for some great local knowledge..

Chandlar is S. Phoenix.. N. of Phoenix on the E. side of I-17 is 2 great hot springs.. I don't know if I can do them in my 911 with Euro ride height..

1) Sheep Bridge Hot Springs.. it's about 50 miles to Black Canyon City by I-17
2) Verde Hot Springs.. it's about 25 miles from the town of Camp Verde.

so, can the 911 do them? how long in hours is the ride from good roads? how long in hours is fuel from the springs? how long in hours is food? If I could only do one, which one should I do..

I know of a hot springs in Colorado that overlooks a valley.. that had the highest sightings of UFOs in the US.. great place, LOL..

and Sarah.. if you like the style of the flowers that you posted like me.. I know an area of western Texas that has a riverbank with that style a short distance away..let's say the bank reaches 50-200 yards from the river.. wait, gotta post it..

OK.. the river pic is about the river.. the bank has flowers that are farely unique to Texas.. various colors/types, but somewhat similar.. never saw them anywhere else.. and this is spring time south of I-10.. so the full green thins out gradually to desert.. it's a nice green area in the desert. a kinda tourist respectable area.. good roads, washrooms, picnic benches/tables, and very safe from the border action..........Ron

after the river pic my fuel pump went kaput.. I'm close to I-10 in N.M... did a quick pump delivery, but the weekend slog caused 4 nites in "waiting it out 'ville" at the world famous city digs... I'm doing the install w/frontend raised in the pic.. the closest flatbed ride to a decent 911 shop was $400-$500 away, in 1999 dollars.. took me about 2 hours to check injector flow, then check filter flow, then pre filter flow.. somewhat relaxing to figure the problem out.. the pump would run when I triggered the sensor plate/whatever.......Ron

Can someone enlighten me to something here...

I am going to Las Vegas in a little over a week. When you search for "things to see" Red Rocks comes up...but here it says it's in
Arizona..

I'm confused...can someone explain? I was really looking forward to seeing these after my business meetings before I fly back to home.

I think Sedona is sometimes referred to as "Red Rocks"? I could be wrong. I would guess Sedona is a good 3 or 4 hour (or more) drive from Vegas? So I wouldn't exactly call it a "things to see" item from Vegas...

If you have any engineering blood in you, the Hoover Dam is the thing to see while in the Vegas area. With the current security situation, though, I don't think they're doing the hard hat tour anymore.

Sedona is "Red Rock Country" but in Las Vegas there is Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Hi,

I Need some suggestions for nice places to stay in Sedona (i.e. pool, spa & beverages accessible.. ).

It looks like my friend and I are going to be going to Sedona as our Plan B trip because of the Hurricane in Cabo hitting our vacation spot.

Does anyone have suggestions and also know of anything that might be going on there this weekend? (My friend and I are going to be checking the internet too...but I thought you guys might have some fast suggestions).

There are lots of shops with overpriced art, but I'd just concentrate on the scenic red rocks of the area! I took my sisters up there earlier this year and they loved it.
