which is better Rennlist ?

ok, as posted at Rennlist by me,
I got a reply that, the answers may well be different if I posted it here so here we go

(snip)----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"in the left hand corner wearing the blue trunks and weighing in at 140lbs is Pelican. And in the right hand corner wearing spandex leotards and weidghting in and 155lbs is Rennlist. This is a 10 round bout, or TKO...when you hear vthe bell come out fighting, lets have a good clean fight DING "

ok,
so who's best ? or the same.

if so, say why !

I use a load of boards and pel/ren are used equally.

so,like da man said

DING !

i've tried Rennlist several times and didn't like it. This board seems more friendly, more user-friendly, and, well, more off-topic.

If Rennlist is the Yankees of Porsche boards, then Pelican is the Red Sox...

turbo6bar 09-08-2003 08:03 AM

The Pelican boards are super. I used to frequent the Rennlist mailing lists, and there's too much off-topic banter. I don't think the Rennlist forums have as much traffic as Pelican.

Go Pelican!!!

nostatic 09-08-2003 08:16 AM

Rennlist seems stronger for new p-car traffic (964/993). The "911" board at Rennlist has much less traffic and information than Pelican.

BlueSkyJaunte 09-08-2003 10:04 AM

Flamewars on Rennlist sent me elsewhere...

Doug Zielke 09-08-2003 10:16 AM

Yes, much less traffic on the 911 Rennlist boards. Steve Weiner posts there quite a bit; that's a big plus.

One thing you *can* do on the Rennlist is ask about, and discuss parts suppliers other than PP.

dd74 09-08-2003 12:02 PM

There's good people on Rennlist. As Zeke said Steve Weiner, and Ed Bighi is another. He's a nice guy and seems knowledgeable.

Pelican's format is easier to understand, and it seems many of the "posters" have deeper technical questions and answers.

Plus they don't have Tabs.

Adrian has a 944 - the Rennlist Board is pretty good for 924/944 (similar or maybe more traffic to Pelican).

As Doug says, there is a heap of traffic on Rennlist for 964/993 etc.

But for 911s (and 914s I think), Pelican is the place to be.

Off topic? I can't be arsed with the Rennlist one. Too many posts and nothing interesting.

Bill Douglas 09-08-2003 05:06 PM

I've never had anything to do with Rennlist, it doesn't seem to do it for me. I occassionaly goto www.pcapotomac.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=2 but they are a bunch of sober-sides compaired with us.

RallyJon 09-08-2003 05:41 PM

I read the Rennlist 911 forum just about cover to cover when I first got my 911.

As others have said, there are a couple of really smart folks there who post a lot. There are also a few hundred arrogant asses--easily spotted my the "Rennlist Member" under their name. Read any controversial topic and you'll see plenty of their posts, which are generally egocentric and dismissive in tone.

Good reading for background, but when I need help or want to discuss an issue with knowledgeable and friendly Porsche enthusiasts, I come here.

CJFusco 09-08-2003 08:22 PM

i don't know... i am thinking of defecting to Rennlist. The 944 forum is starting to resemble a honda board

"look at my awesome system... how about metal dash stickers for the 944?... how do i get a sub in place of the rear seats..."

it has me worried...

RazorRacer 09-09-2003 04:09 AM

It's like having two personalities. You can be someone on this board and someone else on the other board.

Still, good, if not great, people on both.

Mark Wilson 09-09-2003 04:48 AM

Rennlist bores me. You could take a nap.

Sarah 09-09-2003 10:57 AM

I like reading the OT of Rennlist because a lot of it is pretty funny.

But...I enjoy Pelican more and read the OT & 911 board almost every work day if I get a chance. I also buy from Pelican when I have extra money to get something porsche related.

pwd72s 09-09-2003 06:35 PM

Think I'll go check out Rennlist now...

Paco Anton 09-10-2003 02:17 AM

I started at Rennlist but the 911 board had little traffic, so I moved here.

In my dreams I am planning to buy a 964 (in addition to the SC). Last time I checked, the 964 board was more active in Rennlist than here.

The Rennlist OT board is worth checking (I do it almost everyday) :D

adrian jaye 09-10-2003 04:35 AM

hi guy's,

cheers for the replies, obviously, just goto rennlist OT to see the Rennlist equivalent post there

intreresting

me, I'll still frequent both

laterzz

Dantilla 09-10-2003 08:05 AM

No Tabs? Maybe I'll check it out!

Nabeel 09-10-2003 08:46 AM

As far as the 924/944/968 boards go, Rennlist gets way more traffic. However, I think the content of the posts are similar. I like Pelican due to its smaller size and my famiiarity with it. Pelican was the first 944 board I came across, and I kinda stuck to it. Sure, Rennlist is bigger, but that also means the flame wars that erupt are bigger, and there are more off-topic posts. Case in pont: the 'ignore' thread which turned into 2000+ posts of mindless rambling before it was mercifully laid to rest. Also, in terms or tech expertise, I think Pelican is every bit the match for Rennlist. With guys like SoCal, AFJuvat, Britwrench, and others, I think Pelican is very hard to beat. I still go to Rennlist quite often, even though I don't post there, and plan to purchase a membership there, just because it remains a great community of enthusiasts.

As far as the 911 boards, I've noticed like the others here that the Pelican boards seem far superior in regard to pre-964 models, while the newer car owners usually frequent Rennlist.
