What video player do I need to play most of these videos?

Any suggestions on what player I should download?

Windows media player plays the WMV files... However WINAMP is a good generic player and free, plays a lot of different formats.

Generally, the player isn't key - it's the codec support you have. The obvious exceptions are QuickTime (which appears to require Apple's QT player), RealPlayer (for Real's formats) or the Windows Media formats (WMV and ASF). My experience has been all the other codecs on the Windows platform conform to the DirectShow specs. Thus, Windows Media Player will handle the other common formats (e.g. DivX, MPEGs). I find I get by with QuickTime and Windows Media Player.

Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement of Windows or WMP, just a reflection of my philosophy that players themselves are not intrinsicaly interesting. I simply want a movie file to play when asked.

I cant play the MP4 format that jack uses. What do I need for this?

Jack, what codec do you use? I thought DivX "knew" MPEG4. Also, MPEG2 is apparently used with some DVDs. You can download a decoder from www.moonlight.co.il. It may know MPEG4
