There's always a few that stay behing with a generator. Hope they're OK.

we get lots of hurricanes down here in the south. we go days without electricity every time. A couple of hurricanes ago I bought an inverter from Sam's for about $40. only 3-400 watts and plugs into the car or hooks to the battery. while everyone else is sitting in the dark sweating, I'm watching movies with fans and lights. it's good for 8 hours or so, but if you crank the car and recharge the battery every few hours, it'll go for days until power returns. cheaper than a generator...plus I can use it on the job for charging my cordless drills as I drive and other things as well. great $40 investment!
