Rudge Whitworth

In a PM, I was asked to post a picture of my 1929 Rudge Whitworth Grand Prix Ulster. This very bike was one of six Rudges that competed in the 1929 World Cup on the Isle of Man. It was a factory racer and three identical Rudges swept the boards with a 1,2 3 finish. The bike is completely original and unrestored (while it has a little patina, it can only be "original" once, thats why its original)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1064801447.jpg I'm out of town this week, and this is the only picture of the bike that I had on my hard drive.

*Very* nice, Hugh!!
Is the cylinder head cast bronze?

Jdub 09-29-2003 07:44 AM

Leapt The Bridge did it? I'll raise a pint to that!

John

PS: Did those Bullseye pulleys *really* get us up the hills any faster?

Hugh R 09-29-2003 07:51 AM

Doug, very good. Yeah, it has the bronze racing head, I also have the street iron head. The bike has a four valve head (in 1929!) its a single cylinder 500 cc engine.

John, I'm not sure what you mean by "Bullseye Pulleys" it has chain drives on the primary and secondary

Hugh,
It has been my dream to visit the Isle Of Man for the TT, one day. You too should consider returning to the island with your fine machine, taking a lap in commemoration.

I'd love to, but two teenagers, one going to college soon, and everything else sort of precludes that, for the forseeable future.SmileWavy

Thanks for sharing that. I love the old iron. Just like our P Cars, that old stuff likes to be ridden.
I never get tired of looking and listening to old one lungers.
Cheers,
Tony

Beautiful, just beautiful. Congrats, What is the story of your coming into possession of this beautiful bike?

By the way, a 500cc single cylinder ought to give you a hell of a buzz all the way up your spine, huh?

My dad bought it in the 40's from the guy that raced it in the 1929 TT at the Isle of Man. I inherited it about 20 years ago. I'll be dusting it off and taking it to the San Jose All British Bike show in March, which is why I can't attend the Pelican thing in Las Vegas.

Nice - that one should be on the last page of the AMA magazine if it hasn't already been there...

OSI930 01-02-2006 06:17 PM

Very cool. Those Isle of Man riders, both yesterday and today, have my respect.

Hugh R 01-03-2006 12:27 PM

It runs, but I haven't fired it up in a couple of years, yeah, yeah, I know its not good for the seals, and such. I will soon.
