my '91 chev shortbed, standard cab p/u has 200K on it; no rust, minimal maintenance. gets 20-22mpg with big tires. 4.3l V6

costs .25 per mile to operate

Porsche 944S2 or 968. I didn't realize there were any other choices

WRX baby.

It's fast, quiet, fun, has 4 real doors, fits 4 adults, and looks cool (IMHO).

WRX or RSX Type S. After just spending $15K of AudiUSA's money fixing my wife's A8 (thank you extended warranty), there is no way in hell I'd buy a used Audi...

91 C4 Coupe with all season tires. Live the dream!

Toshiba, sorry, Toyota.

I concur with a 99 or 2000 BMW 3 series. Very able and fun cars.

Nissan Altima 3.5SE, 245hp 3200lbs more roomy than a WRX.

Toyota Prius (hydrid). Great gas mileage, comfortable, very interesting technology that works great. My dad has nearly 50K miles on his, troublefree and >45mpg. With gas >$2 here, that's nice.

VW TDI (Jetta, Golf, New Bug, 2004 Passat)

My 2000 TDI has 107,000 miles on it. Is great fun to drive (chipped) and lifetime fuel mileage average 51.89 mpg

She can carry 4 adults and loads of luggage, has no problems in the mountains and it is easy to find diesel. I can easily go 750 miles on a tank of fuel and have actually gone 908 miles on one tank of fuel.

what kind of chips are available for the VW TDI? Interesting idea!

osidak 10-06-2003 08:59 AM

I run an Upsolute (www.upsolute.com) chip. They $300 and take you from 90 bhp up to 120 bhp and also a signifigant bump in torque. (Contact Rene Berube rberube@upsolute.com 704-588-0207 for exact numbers)

Wett also makes one. Similar numbers and I think slightly more money. There are several others but I do not have direct experience with them.

Upsolute also does chipping for Porsche. Pretty impressive numbers.
