trade-in value higher with warranty?
My wife's A8 has the Audi CPO warranty until 12/03. Is the car worth more on trade-in with the warranty still in place? In other words, will we get more for it now as opposed to after the warranty runs out? I know that if we were to sell it ourselves the warranty would likely be worth a bit more money, or at least make the car a bit easier to sell...

If you sold it to a dealer, no, they would probably find a way to turn it against you :( However if you sell privately, then of course yes. Todd, think about all the times you've advised a newbie 911 shopper/owner on this site to hold another ~2K$ in reserve for unforseen fixes. Most of this uncertainty would be addressed with a factory warranty. It would be a selling point for me...but I'm not buyin your A8. Do you want to buy a 99 Land Rover Disco 2 with 4K left on the manufacturers warranty?

ha! How about a trade? ;)
I put her car in the Recycler for $23K. I think for a private party the warranty is a big plus, even if it is only for 2 months. It at least allows the new owner to shake down the car on Audi USA's dime. Plus it has a brand new tranny. Looks like we're going to drop down to 2 vehicles (she liked the FX35), so the 911 will move from optional daily driver to more mandatory status. Hope she can handle the pressure. |
To a private party a warranty, even for two months would be desireable.
