At fear of being enlightened I will say the following. I thought huge government spending was supposed to revive an economy?.? Since Davis went on what can only be called a massive spending spree since day one, can someone tell me why it didn't work "this time"? I know I am as far away as can be, but Cali has always been a test bed for political schemes. The voting map was also interesting, someone see a trend here? I think there is something in big city water that causes tunnel vision.

Do the folks in California honestly belive that Davis (scum that he may be) is the root of the fiscal/energy/education/infrastructure problems and that Arnold is the man to fix these problems?
Since the vote is in and he is your choice, lets at least hope so.

Thom, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on your arguments re:the Republican blame game. You and I seem diametrically opposed ideologically and will never change each others' minds. Nothing wrong with that. Colin

As one who lived through (and was partly to blame for it by voting for him) the Jesse Ventura administration all I can say is good luck to you. We too had an idiot Governor whose strings were pulled by others. While entertaining, nothing worthwhile really happens. Maybe Ah-nold will prove me wrong. I doubt it.
I do think Gray needed ousting, Ah-nold just may not have been the right replacement. The whole thing reminds me of a great Winston Churchill quote, "The best argument against Democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter."

The big difference between Arnold's victory in CA and Jesse's in MN is that Jesse was a third party candidate while Arnold is a Republican. Jesse had no friends in either house, and quickly lost his appeal to the public (as soon as they sobered up after the election). Jesse also took control of a state that had perfect finances and huge surplasses after a very successful and popular two term Republican administration. ( a very good case against term limits).
The only similarity between the two that I can see were that they were both in the movie Predator. Jesse had a small bit part and was killed off early. Arnold defeated the alien and became a superstar.

My pre-election advise to Arnold would've been "Be careful what you wish for, you may get it"
Should be interesting. Also, while I respect Warren Buffet I will now compare him to NYs Mike Bloomberg. I thought he'd make a great NY mayor....afterall he's a top shelf businessman, right? Unfortunately, that's not the case.

I really don't see whats wrong with surrounding your self with bright/experienced guys...Buffet, Schultz, Drier.....If I had to have surgery I sure would want the best team to do the operation...you sure don't want a bunch of dunces... Oh an Grey Davis was connected to Enron...so please let's not speak in a holier than thou attitude when speaking about Democrats...aka the scum of the earth.... Sit there and figure it out the party of Roosvelt is dead..it died in 1984....and was taken over the the situational ethics team of Bill and Hill in 1992...and by the skin of Americas teeth their brand of Politics was handed its head in 2000 and UNIVERSIALLY reafirmed again in 2002 by the Repblican victory. Now the Democratic party has moved even further left...with Pellossi and Dean....in the hopes of achieving what? Alienating even more people. The repudiation of Grey Davis, one of the Politicans who rode to victory on the Clinton band wagon has now been handed his head. While Arnold may not have the experience he has the good sense to surround himself with people who do. Like I explained at length before the Repblican party is moving from the extreme right to center stage...Mclintok or whatever his name was showing in the election shows that the radical right is losing it's ability to win elections. So give Arnold a chance, he will make mistakes, but the people have have more confidence in him than they did their career Politicians Davis or Bustemonte to right the situation or at least right it as much as can be. . . .Which means there will be a whole lot of people looking to help Arnold (along w/ CA) fail miserably. Maybe those are the "asses" Dr. No speaks of.

Jesse Ventura is quite a bit like Ross Perot.
Very good at pointing fingers at problems, which gives votors hope for some positive changes. But when he had the opportunity to fix things, he had no answers. I'm glad Davis is gone, but stay tuned..... This story ain't over. |
