My first thought after reading the bimmer thread was how it might relate to our runs. I decided that it doesn’t.

Our runs are “fun” runs. We may exceed the posted limit at times  but we do not race each other on a fun run. We enjoy being out on a great drive with great cars, like our own, & great company. It’s about comrade.

Heaven forbid one of our own have an accident, but if it happened the rest of us would not split b/c "we couldn’t handle it." Sam’s (SWBSAM) accident is a good example of that.

When setting up a drive my two biggest concerns are that everyone has a safe and fun run. If I got to the end of a drive and found out someone behind me had a problem/accident I would be back in a heartbeat, whatever the consequences.

It really pisses me off that those guys left them, even if they were being boneheads.

I've got an MB as a daily driver. I've quit visiting the MB BBS' because of all the "Bling Bling" stupidness. Much more class here! Don't know what I'm talking about? Just check out their Sigs.

I noticed the same thing on some of these car boards. If Pelican posters ever start to get those horribly atrocious sigs, I pre-vote that they should be banned and flogged severely...after their Porsche paraphernalia is transferred to me. :)

You know... I like the look of the M5 for the most part...but other than that, all I see from BMW are SQUARE cars that lack styling.

yeah the engines and handling are great...but geeze most BMWs are butt ugly.

Actually there is a good MB board.

I too use a Benz for a daily driver and have found this board to be quite helpful. It has some resident gurus.

I'd like to remind everyone that you should have an escape plan already in place should a fire break out at your home. A rollup ladder is essential for second-story bedrooms that have only the single door to what might be a hallway full of fire.

Thank you,
John

any recommendations for a person organizing a several day trip? I was thinking of issuing a page of rules with some disclaimer they sign (shhesh!) In the past, we issued maps with stops listed and said we try to keep in a pack at legal speeds. If you wan to go on ahead on your own, thats your decision. Given the "blame" mentality growing in our culture, it seems like I should have some sort of disclaimer for participants signed. Anybody have some recommendations or examples? Shoot them over! (Feb 6-8 Arizona Fun run in Southern Arizona-See Tombstone, Bisbee, Patagonia, Titan Missile Museum, Kitt Peak observatory, Gloria Estate Vinery)

Something worth mentioning..did you all notice the tone of the posters on the bimmer BBS? Seems most of them are hardly in their 20's. How do those guys afford M3's and then hot rod them!? Must be parents' money...

..if my kids ever get the bug to go street racing the steel toe boots are going to meet some arses. And the only cars I'm buying for my kids will be Volvo station wagons and restorable 911s' for the track and the occasional Prom or Homecoming nights.

There is a definite difference between this BBS and other BBS'. The level of maturity here is nice.

Please be safe out there gang.

It's funny you mention that souk, my dad and i found that out the hard way with my late teen life. Lets just say that it would be too long to mention this story in detail, and if i did, a lot of people wouldn't like what they hear. But you got it right on the bullseye, the best thing is to be addicted to something constructive instead of getting caught up in the testosterone. Playing with these cars for the past 5 years gave me eduaction that invaluable and kept me out of drugs or potentially worse. It really is a wonderfull hobby.

How interesting. I must live in a cultural bubble. Wonder how long it will be before having a 911 is "kewl?" When I see the hopped up Hondas and BMWs on the road and the like I just get out of their way.

Temper Tantrum

Hey Justin,

I know your Uncle and race with your uncle. You might be a little more carefull with what you say. He has built many of RACE motors for his own car with NO problems.

So for anyone out there that has read this post be assured that Mr. Minkoff does know how to build motors. It sounds to me like little Justin is throwing a temper tantrum. Grow up and keep family issues to family and not a public message board.

I'd be curious what Mr Minkoff's side off the story is. It would probable behoove him to get his side out, after all isn't his reputation in the small Porsche community that's at stake?

I think Justin shares some responsibility because he stated he had doubts about his Uncle's integrity before this went down.

Vintage911Racer 10-08-2003 11:56 AM

There is no need for Mr. Minkoff to post to this thread.

I actually talked to him and got his side of the story. He has nothing to worry about. His reputation will be just fine.

Justins POOR taste in judgement in actually using his uncles name tells you he is having some other issues besides his motor.

So Paul, lets not be trying to dig any deeper into this. Let this thread die and let family take care of it.

We can keep the thread about the BMW incident, that deserves our thoughts and prayers. However 911tmaasters post is a waste of time.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER?
let's face it , the teeny weeny powder extinguishers basically useless on any fire where you have leaking oil and fuel and other stuff usually found in cars.
unkess you're extunguishing the first minute after the fire started, it's going to be a futile attempt...

I'll be futile then...I'd rather at least try. And if 4 or 5 people on scene all have one?

all depends on how bad it is , from the post on the other board, doesn't appear to have been a small fire...

ZCAT3 10-08-2003 12:56 PM

I nominate this thread as the most schizophrenic thread to date - we have BMWs crashing, mechanic bashing, concrete epoxy advice, etc., etc. -

You have not acted like a child. Should not be offended.

Sorry if you were.
