Any gamblers here?

Just thought this might be an intersting topic. I admit that I play the numbers on football quite a bit. I have never been in "big" trouble, but have certainly had my bad weeks. I know it is a very bad habit, but I have been able to keep it in check for the most part. One of my buddies however is in a bad spot. He is down over two weeks pay and cannot cover it. We all use the same book and no one has ever failed to pay him, should be interesting. To eleborate, I did not vouch for him, I know he has a problem and I told him I would not contribute to his pain. In the past I have covered his losses from time to time by having him do odd jobs around my house but I cant do that here. It should be interesting to see what happens here. Maybe tough love here and let him take his medicine?

Oh yea, KC tonight

I guess you just gave a good reason to stay away from bookies...

This isn't the old chicago style leg breaker bookie. But I get your point.

The bookie is a businessman. And this certainly won't be a new situation for him.

Your friend needs to take the initiative and see him, explain the situation and put a repayment plan together.

Under no circumstances bail him out. You'll either never see the money again, lose a friend when you ask for it back (bet he won't anticipate this topic) or at best you'll encourage hin to overplay again.

I agree, in Oprah speak I would be an enabler if I keep bailing him out. He'll be fine, maybe he'll learn something.

I Gamble, love to play Poker and the Crap Table. I just havn't been able to hit up here, I just havn't been able to make the Passes when I needed em. I have been losing money constantly. So I have gone from the house above to the trailer below in about 3 months. Hate to say how much capital that amounts to....but I am sure to get it back, after the next Trust Fund Check comes. Until then those $0.49 Breakfasts sure do come in handy.

Tabs, one day I'd love you to just come up with the truth about anything (so the Rolls and the early 911 are parked around the back of the trailer?).

I know a guy like tabs, he has a ton of aptitude and a considerable amount of knowledge. The problem as we found out last year was that he is schitso. Not saying that Tabs shares his affliction, just kinda reminds me of him a little. This guy will argue both sides of any arguement with knowledge and passion just to get a rise outta people. Should have been a laywer

I could not agree more. Gambling is a business. Yet, fools keep insisting upon rushing in, trying to beat the pros...

Well, for anyone who is interested I resolved his problem, sorta. Ok, maybe made it worse. I came up with a deal for him and it worked out. I gave him $x toward his debt. I told him he could do anything he wanted with the money but I advised him to simply use it toward debt. In return for this money he had to put in several 8 hour days working around my house. However if he chose to gamble with it and won then he still had to put in a day at my house. Well he won and is out of trouble, and I get a free days labor. After he got back to even I strongly advised him to give it up and stop gambling, lesson learned you know. Well he did not bet last night so maybe he listened, I hope so anyway. There ya go, did I do more harm than good?

Probably. Especially as he won! In a few weeks time he's going to be back for you to bail him out again.

Speaking of gambling, there is a guy on the 911 board that wants to put used chain tensioners in his p-car.
