Ranch Cucamonga Fire

That fire is gettin mighty close to my ole homestead. The other side directly across the wash (west) in Upland from my ole home has been evacuated. As well as all the homes starting about 3/4 of a mile North of my street throughout Rancho have been evacuated. Also about a 1 1/2 miles due east is a home development nestled in a grove of Eculyptus trees that has been evacuated. Eucypltus tress only need an excuse to burn.

I've had fires comes as close as a 1/4 mile before when I was a kid, been through a flood and numerous earthquakes while I lived in SO Cal. So this stuff is not new to me.

I had wanted to buy a lot and build a custom house in a now evacuated subdivision up against the mountains Also I know people let alone my old neighbors who have been evacuated or are close to it.

hell .....all you'd have to do is put your wheels back on the house and relocate :D

In 2002 I talked to a fire department offical. He basically said that there were two lines of defense in in my old neighborhood. The first was at an east west street (Hillside) that parallel's the mountains behind about 3/8 of a mile North of where I lived and the second was another east west street (Banyan) about 1/4 below. According to the Fire Service Bulletin they have evacuated the homes above the first line of defense.http://www.incidentcontrol.com/grandprix/index.html

BTW: The Incident web site says that SCE electric power transmission lines are being threatened by the fire. These power lines supply 25% of the power to the LA Basin.

Does this mean my power rates are gonna go up again? I'm sure some A-hole will find a way to turn a profit out of this.

and they'll blame it on Davis...his last act of office was to cause the fire or not have the transmission lines moved in anticipation of the fire

There is an outside chanch my old house is gone now???? I heard an interview on Fox with a man who lived on Whirlaway....which is rougly 1/2 mile away to the North of where I lived ( block above Hillside) The man was almost crying that his house might be gone? From what I read the fire is over in Claremont, CA now....SWB Sammy lives real close to the fire now and I have friends who live up in one of the canyons that has been evacurated.

important thing is, are you still relatively safe?

tabs 10-27-2003 08:53 AM

I'm living in Las Vegas....if you can call that safe. I am. I have friends and exneigthbors living in the area. So I have ties...concerns. Our SWBSam lives over in Claremont near the path of the fire..so some of our frineds on this board are affected. It has been difficult getting detailed news here in Vegas. I have called my friends in SO CAL, and while they are close to the fire, were in no danger of getting burned out.

aaah, when you said "ole homestead" you meant your former place. didn't make the connection. thought you actually still lived there ;)
