I don't ever remember it being like this. I am in Huntington Beach, and it is always grey in the am, not orange like this. It is so quiet outside. |
This picture was taken about 15 minutes ago, and I am about 70 miles from the fires.

can't you smell the smoke?
im in palos verdes and my cars and property are covered with ash. the santa ana winds are blowing everything to the west. i was going to surf but i'd rather stay inside to avoid unhealthy air quality. i'm definitely leaving the pcar rested today. EDIT: it's cloudy/foggy like that here too, except that's not clouds and fog, it's smoke! |
Picture of San Diego this AM. Fires to the north.

How is this for brilliance...
They painted the trim on my building yesterday and now it has a pretty ash texture! Yesterday the sunlight was very red with the rest of the sky having a slightly more normal blueish cast. It made everything look red with a blue shadow! Tried to get a shot showing how red the sun was and this was the best I could do... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1067189799.jpg Wayne |
I've seen similar lighting up here...during our forest fires. I'm wishing the best for you down there.

I'm on my way to San Diego at the end of the week...I guess I should pack my gas mask?
Cheers, FastAggie |
Here's a shot from Rancho Santa Fe looking south, southeast :

Wow,
The picture of San Diego with all of the smoke looks like Ras Al Khafji in Saudi Arabia when I was there during Desert Storm. When Saddam lit the oil rigs and pools of raw unrefined oil on fire, I didn't see the sun for weeks! Our tents were covered with a slimy, smelly oil film and it actually got cold at night because the sun couldn't break through the heavy smoke. It looked like hell on earth!!! |
That's interesting, Art. Particularly since many of the firefighters interviewed call the burning brush not "brush," but "fuel."
|
Holy ****.
I just got back from SF...and this is really something bad to come home to. |
My sister moved to CA this summer and they are in Rancho Pennisquitos (sp?). They had ash falling and across the hwy many homes were already on fire. They left the area to stay at our cousins in Fallbrook (sp?) but I think they are going to head back when they can and help with clean up. Luckily their side of the hwy was ok at the moment. How scary though. Good luck all you guys dealing with this.

Sarah,
I use to live in Fallbrook, it's off Hwy 15, not very far from Rancho Penasquitos. I hope Fallbrook is safe as they have alot of trees in that area (Live Oaks and Avocado). |
