paypal scam ?
 

A co-worker recieved an e-mail. A PAYPAL looking page said that his account was going on hold for unspecified "restrictions". It asked for all his personal info including CC #'s. The top left hand corner even had the link to paypal's home page.

He checked his account and there is no problem. We sent the link to paypal.:confused:

Scam....Paypal never solicits personal information to remedy "Security" issues via email.

You can cut and paste a couple of Paypal logos and you're in business.

I got it too and checked my account. I believe it's a scam.

Yeah I got that same email too. I didn't buy that story either. I just deleted it.

I received the same and contacted Paypal, sent them a copy of the email. Yep, scam!!

Just remember: Never, ever give out sensitive information to a link received from an unsolicited e-mail even if it looks legit. It is very easy to close down the e-mail, and then just directly log onto the site in question (whether PayPal, eBay, BestBuy, etc.) and check things out. When you log onto the site directly, you know you have reached the actual site of the company, and not just a pretty picture a scammer took you to.

Same thing applies at home people. When is the last time you got a phone call from your credit card company specifying that there was some "unusual activity" on one of your cards? Did you answer their questions and give them the info they wanted? 9 times out of 10 these are legit, but that 10th time someone has just gotten all of your credit card info. If you get such calls, let the caller know that you cannot verify their identity and that you will call the phone number on the back of your credit card to pursue the matter. If the call is really from the credit card company, they have no trouble with this. And when you make the call, you know who you are talking to.

I've noticed a huge increase in my spam lately, and wonder if these enterprising young people are harvesting email addresses from Pelican.

I'm not sure about this, and am not blaming Pelican in any way. It's just that PP is really the only public area where my email address is available for anyone to grab.

Just remenber if the page does not have https// its not a secure page!

Yeah, I belong to about a half dozen boards similar to Pelican. Every time I join one, I see my spam ratchet up a notch. I think I'm up to about 400 per day now. If it gets any worse I'll have to change my email address, which is too bad, since I've had this one for about 8 years. Spam is a problem that will cripple business soon if we don't get a handle on it. Arggggghhhhhhhh :(

I get ~20k spams a month now between the various emails addresses that I have. I've had one address since 1992. Most of the spam gets caught by SpamAssassin, so I never actually see it, but the rest I have to deal with manually. I finally got a hand on the p3n!s enlargement spams, and now it's mostly for various online pharmacy crap, for vicodin and whatnot.

Who knew the Monty Python gang were on to something so big...

First off, if you have Outlook 2003, spam is no longer an issue. I have had no errors in its spam interception yet in the 3 weeks I've been running it.

If you don't have Outlook 2003, but you do have a previous version (like the one included with most PocketPC PDAs), get SpamBayes. It filters spam as well as Outlook 2003. I loved it.

Secondly, Paypal and Ebay scams are a dime a dozen, and not worth posting on the 911 technical forum.

I'm in the same situation as you, I pretty much stopped getting the the "member" enlargement ones, now my only spam is about 3-4 vicodin ads a day.
