In the Seattle Times business section in this last Sundays paper ran a sizeable story about the feasibility and economic benefits of building a Nascar racetrack and surrounding "village" consisting of motels and other support facilities modeled after a facility in Kansas. We already have a half decent road course track that also houses a drag strip which the NHRA already uses for their events.
We can only hope that what ever they decide to build that it is a road course versus the ever boring banked oval course. That way maybe there will be some other than Nascar races in this area, perhaps by CART, IRL or even ALMS.

Well, it looks like we will have an ALMS at Portland International Raceway 7/23-25/2004.

Humpy Wheeler, owner of several racing facilities including, Lowes Motor Speedway and Sears Point (I will never call it Infineon!), is looking at Arlington, WA, as a potential NASTYCAR site.
Humpy may have a stupid name, but is not a stupid guy. If he get's his way, NASTYCAR could be in our backyard. Like it or not, all of Mr. Wheeler's ventures fly pretty good, so it may just happen.

Noooooooooooooooooo!
I'll protest with flares strapped to my chest. I personally think that if they are going to build any sort of racing track, they should build an inner city quarter mile track. (not for top fuel dragsters - too loud) Get the f*ing kent and marysville kids off the street. I've actually thought about it, pretty hard, it would be easy except the most important part - inner city. And rain would be a factor. So now you just need an inner city track that is covered! Boeing is selling their spaces, but that's fully enclosed and not 1/2 mile long! |
