Pretty cliche list.
Sad that the most recent Album (CD?) on that list was from 1993. Shows the sad state of current rock/pop music more than anything else. Has it all been done already? |

DARK SIDE OF THE MOON number 43?!?! Wouldn't MOST lists place it in the top 10 at least?!? This discredits the Rolling Stone list right off the bat.

Led Zeppelin doesn't appear until 29, and Aja is nowhere to be seen. As I said, lame list by doofus people who don't have any real skills so they become a critic.
Hey...there's an idea! |

Looks more upside down in many ways. And also looks like a "Top 500 Beatles/Beatles-Members-Gone-Solo List" than anything else.
![]() Sorry Beatles fans. I've tried to listen to them MANY times but I always felt I would have to be 'medicated' to enjoy their music. Not 1 album from Stevie Ray Vaughn? ![]() The Cult, Electric should be in there. When I saw the "Top 100 Guitarists" and it had Jack White at #17, I knew then that the writers at RS were hittin' the H2O pipe from their closet. He's a fine guitarist but #17??? |

These lists usually are lame, but since Rolling Stone is a "music" magazine i thought it might be of interest.
Has anyone here besides me ever even heard #243, Mother's of Invention- Freak out"? It's interesting, but not in a musical way. BTW, the "mother's" have 2 albums on this list. Whoooo, could imagine........

I didn't know a Greatest Hit album could be included.
How bout Captain Beefheart at #58 ahead of Actung Baby by U2? Who knows who Beefheart is among you? The AFI says Citizen Kane is the Best Movie of all time, as Rolling Stone says Sgt Pepper is the Best Album of all time. While both seem dated, and as such not what I would want to listen to or watch, I have to give credit where credit is due...Both were GROUND BREAKERS in their day which opened things up for what we have today. As for guitarists my pick is Ry Cooder...I love his comment about Mick Jagger, "The little twerp thinks he's Lucifer." Here is an OT comment for this thread, but I really agree and love this movie. AFI says the best suspense movie ever is Alfred Hitchcocks "North by Northwest"

Know him? I saw the captain in 1980 at The Backdoor at San Diego State. I also saw Mike Bloomfield there, and Jack Bruce with Billy Cobham at Montezuma Hall, and...

The Captain is a friend of mines next door neighbor in Arcata CA. He currently paints, and is a bit reclusive from what I understand.
Jack Bruce the guy would could play a Bass Guitar like a lead guitar player...awesome to hear him wt Baker and Clapton...when I hear the clarity of the playing it's like clearing the sinus's of the brain. For lack of a better way of describing it. There was supposed to be a reunion of the trio, but Clapton wanted creative control and Bruce said no Also where is Traffic on the list??? Dave Mason, Steve Winwood, Cris Wood, Jim Cappeldi...Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.

That list is so bad it hurts. Pete Townsend #50? Eddie Van Halen # 70? Joe Walsh and Robin Trower not even on the list?
More clueless journalists... |

Hmmm why not "WEASELS RIPPED MY FLESH," then?

imho the guitarist list is more offensive than the album list. While I'm no devotee, Eddie Van Halen is one of the most influential guitarists to ever pick up the instrument. He defined one of the major "sounds" in rock. And put him at #70? And what guitar player hasn't done a "pick windmill" or a "Townsend leap" on stage (or in front of the mirror with an air guitar)?
