Ebay Scam?
Just was checking e-bay for a BMW 528 seiries for the wife and ran across one in Cali. I emialed him for a general location for a look see and here is what I got back.
"The car is registered in Ca. located in Germany, my ex wife took it and now our divorce is finalised she owes me 20,000 which will be obtained by selling this car. I'm trying to fasten up the process because I really need the money right now. So the car will be shipped to you on my expense after you pay 3,000 in advance to the escrow site (safest-trader.com) and also don't worry about there fee, I will pay it. My only problem is time, the final price will be 16,000 if you fasten up the negotiations a little bit. Expecting your reply asap." Looks like Bull*#it to me, I don't know if I should respond or report him to e-bay. I remember reading about this kinda stuff a few weeks ago. Any sites that can follow this dude up? Thanks, Rick |
Its total BS, they run the same scam over and over useing all kinds of items. They hijack an ebay account and use pictures from an old auction and try and get you to forward some money to them. The payment web site is a total scam site.

Turn the joker in to Ebay! Get his account turned off...

I have seen a few of these "divorce sale" things lately. You're supposed to buy the car and the title is then mailed to the x-spouse in another state who will sign and mail to you. This kinda crap is going to eventually bring eBay down.
|
Steve this is a different scam, the guy does not have the car/bike or the title he just wants you to Western Union money to his bogus site. THey run it out of eastern Europe.
Joe, its not the guys account, these scam artists hijack legit peoples ebay accounts to do this. |
Just respond with "Hello (His Name), just wired the money to safe-trader escrow company, let me know when you receive transfer confirmation"
Chris |
I'd report him to ebay. Just the offer to sell outside ebay is enough to shut down his account.
|
The whole scam is based on the facts that they highjack someones legit Ebay account so turning in that person only shuts down that account, and the websiteyou wire the money to is a scam.
|
Just click on Harley Davidson and then look for the bikes that are 1 to 3 yeras old and offered for 5 to 7 thousand below their cost. If you click on them many times you'll get invalid item cause someone already reported the scam or they got scammed.

Just for kicks I did a whois on safest-trader.com and it's registered to a guy in MT but the location (sedalia) isn't found in yahoo and it looks like the DNS is run through yahoo. It all screams bogus to me.
Edit: another odd thing. The server that's hosting the site is a yahoo site |
"Honey, I just ran off with my secretary. Sell the Porsche and wire me the money."....

another bunch of reasons NOT to buy any high ticket items from e-bay. No real monitoring can be done with such a wide base of items/services. If I cannot speak with the seller, preferably see the item or at least get a D&B report on a retailer, I do not buy. My favorite is the one where the guy will buy your car for, say, 20k, but he has this friend who owes him 10k. So, he says, my friend will send you a check for 30k, you just have to send me the 10k and the 20k pays for the car......
