I wouldn't have believed it....

I like it. Looks to be a lot of fun. And rwd to boot. Nice find, Eric. :)

That's cool. I seem to remember an article in a magazine many years ago about a Golf with 928 running gear in it. They had actually widened the body out - it looked awesome!

I would have used an 84 body! I always loved the GTI.
"If you want to fly, fly GTI" For those of you that remember that commercial. |

Yes, they widened a 2-door Rabbit (or Golf) and stuck the entire drivetrain and engine from a 928 inside it. I can't remember any test results, but safe to say, the car was probably quite fast. |
I think it was in an old 'European Car' magazine or was it called Porsche & VW magazine back then??????
|
The first to do that were Porsche themselves. I seem to recall they used a MK1 Golf to test the V8 before the 928 was launched.....Must have scared a few drivers at the time.
Then a Swiss guy, Franco Sbarro did the same, had to widen the shell and get custom front and rear screens for the car. http://www.espera-sbarro.com.fr/modeles/1983/golf300s/golf300s_en.html He also built a mid-engined Golf Mk1 with a 930 engine instead of the rear seats. Installed a hydraulic pack to 'spilt' the car open to get to the engine. http://www.espera-sbarro.com.fr/modeles/1983/golf_turbo/golf_turbo_en.html |
