"We're famous allright"

RSupdate aka Johnny Wiz writes under "R Gruppe goes Big Time" "Oh we're famous allright just start a thread titled "RGRUPPE" over on the PP BBS and see the noterity you'll get.....could be a good reason why we tend to stick to OURSELVES over here in early 911 heaven." Boyz.... you went and and HURT the R Gruppe's feelings. Shame on you, you should be sympathtic and supportive of them. Hand them a hanky when they start to cry, give them a hug and tell em they are loved.....everybody needs a kind word now and then. Now see, thats a good example of how to give a "reach around." Hang around me an you'll all learn something.... Last edited by tabs; 12-16-2003 at 11:38 PM..

Bell are we being Homophobic again? I do love the R Gruppe I really do, they provide me with such a wealth of material..... Well Lynn I did dis you when we were talking about WW2, maybe unfairly. I found your history to be off. When you cited that you had done some reading well...that just compounded it. U see by the time I was in HS, I had allready read ALL the pertient sources. I think that the thing I don't like about the "New" History is that it's nostalgic, glamorizes the era. The old history is more matter of fact we were there and it was nothing special. Ok back to dising the Gruppe....

Oh Bell how sweet you are. War time literature is basically propaganda....and isn't inclusive of the other sides participants. Guadalcanal Diary, by Richard Tregakais published in 1943 was a good book I must admit. I think the first 30 years or so after a conflict is when one gets the best analysis. The Generals publish their self serving memoirs, the Historians get to interview a wide range of participants on both sides, while they are still in the prime of life, and there are enough of them left to dispute any factual errors.

The Gulf of Tonkin was a LIE told by a DEMOCRATIC administration to help get the US to become more deeply involved in South Vietnams struggle to remain independent from the North. By the time I was in college in the early 70's, the Gulf of Tonkin had long been exposed as a LIE. YOu miss my point...and really don't want to listen since I pissed you off...now you want vengence... Histrory written during the conflict is largely propaganda. History witten within 30 years of the conflict is pretty straight...Generals are pretty self serving though...they want to explain their mistakes....but during that time most of the primary sources are still alive. After the 30 year or so threshold you get the revisionists, many of the primary sources are passed on, tempers have cooled maybe the enemy wasn't so bad after all attitude sets in. This is generally a time where nostalgia for the good ole days sets in. Then after what..lets say 90 years or so goes by you have the Historical researchers go back in and revaulate...rereading the primary sources, generals memoirs papers etc to see what happened. I believe there have been some excellent books on the CW published in the 1950's and on.

Quiet specfically I don't like the "New" "Revisionist" history they are publishing now about WW2...It's nostalgia. I prefer reading the the stuff they wrote in the 60's. The story was pretty straight, written by the generation that was there, without the glow of a halo. Maybe in another 30 years the Historians will get back to the story...and the facts jack. The problem now is that the Historians are getting wistfull for a time past, a past of their fathers. The sainted golden age of America...The Greatest Generation....blah.... BTW: The lie of the Gulf of Tonkin didn't take very long to be exposed..only a couple of years...so your example means what, nothing in the old vs new history debate. The Histroy written about Vietnam war written now would I imagine be pretty straight...not that I read any of it. Give it 20 more years and it to will become nostalgia.
