The world has lost a true automotive icon, John Lingenfelter passed away last night after battling injuries he sustained in an accident in one of his world famous Corvettes a few months back. His name was synonymous with fast GM/Corvettes, information in funeral and memorial services is here on LPE's website:
http://www.lingenfelter.com/jlstat2.asp R.I.P. John ![]() EDIT: It wasn't in one of his 'vettes, I was wrong. It happened when he was drag racing a Cavalier at Pomona.

That is sad. Does anyone know the race where he had the accident in Oct. '02? It just says "Pamona, CA." on the web site.

![]() That's really sad. Master of his craft... none of his competitors (lately there have been a lot of aftermarket tuners) could touch his cars. Legend.

Truly sad. He was up there with Healey, the boys at AMG and Alpina as far as I'm concerned. Horrible news...

Man, that's truely sad. He was my idol in the 80's when I had a '71 Camaro! I used to read all about his 200 mph 'vettes and how they would throw you into your seat at 90 mph.

It was the NHRA Summit Sports Compact drag racing event in Pomona, CA on October 27. He hit the retaining wall at 190 mph after losing traction.
Just after his accident, LPE (Lingenfelter Performance Engineering) was testing a street legal '02 427 twin turbo vette that went 8.95@153 mph. To say he will be missed is an understatement. RIP John. Pete |
