so who here plays bass

With the other thread going "whos your fav bass player"

i thought i would see who also plays bass, and give them a chance to tell us about your bass maybe about your rig who were your influences, how long have you been playing, stuff like that

so ok
i will go first

i have been playing for about 6 or 7 years
i have owned a few axe`s over the years but currently i have a peavey T-40, modded with a bartolini in the bridge, (its a big HEAVY tone monster!! and an Aria Pro II, with a bartolini in the bridge and bass lines pickups in the neck. I love to play on the roto sound Piano wound strings but they are getting hard to find around here anymore.

i play through an ampeg SVT-4 PRO, with an ampeg 8x10 classic cab. no F-X or anything just clean bass. i personally love the way bass sounds through 10" speakers. my last setup was 2x15 and i dont think i could ever go back.

anyone else

Kyle

Hey Kyle,

Cool idea, although I'm not sure there are that many people in this board who actually play the bass. Maybe the topic should be "any instrument"!

Anyhow, I just started playing bass about a month ago. My equipment is pretty simple. Started off with a Washburn Bantam 120 and a Crate BX100 (100watt. 15" driver). The sound is pretty decent although I'd like a more dry sound. Right now it kinda sounds like a very low guitar. Any suggestions? I've lowered the tone all the way on the guitar as well as have my treble bands on the amp's eq down and bass bands higher. I've tried many different settings on the amp. Maybe it's the way I'm plucking (I use fingerstyle....no pick). Or maybe I need different strings(?).

If I seriously pursue the bass, I may consider a Warwick Thumb 5 or 6 string (if I can afford it down the road).

As a side note to music. I also play drums. Been playing for about 2 years on a Pearl Export Select w/ Zildjian Custom A Cymbals. A pretty decent sounding set for the money.

Rock on.

Juan

I fall into the Any Instrument category.

I can play Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keys, along with a few other instruments.

As of now, Im currently involved in Guitar.

My set up is as follows

LTD RR Jackson, #73 of 200 first run issue
Ernie Ball / Music Man John Petrucci Signature model
Ibanez RG270DX
Zoom 40/40 floor pedal
Marshall practice amp.

Since Im retarded, and cant seem to post pics here, here is my site with pics http://groups.msn.com/GigsnStuff/jacksonibanez.msnw

Im in the process of buying a Marshall Mode 4 fullstack, prob in Feb 04.

I use to own a bass rig, but sold it because of money issues.

I plan on buying a drum set so I can play, and my kids can play.

And buying another bass rig.

Ive dabbled with Drum, Bass and Guitar for over 18 years or so.

Thanks. The only thing that isn't me playing is the drums, although I did the loops, edits and mixes from the original audio files (www.discretedrums.com)

Todd, "Voodoo" sounds really sweet. There's alot going on there! Love the jazz-y rhythm and beat. The solos are nice! And bass sounds clean and clear. Definitely skilled.

Rock on!

PS- Nice Coupe too. 79 is definitely a good year! I'm the proud owner of a Metallic Blue/Cork 79' myself! woohoo.
