Hmmmm...Sometimes these things are just better off left to the wisdom of other people. This information is on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know.

Seriously though, I too hate when threads just "dissapear". Is it o.k. to say that Herr Doctor was a friend of Hitler?

I've said worse and gotten away with it...My favorite was "Why Porsche owners think Hitler was the Greatest German." There was a howl from the peanut gallery to be sure, but it survived.

Note that it's not just moderators that can delete a thread: the starter of a thread has the ability to delete the whole thread.

Ronin,

A Pelican member found a thread on a 914 board (not Pelican) and posted the link here. A military member in Bagdad found a Porsche that evidently was owned by one of the sons of Saddam. It had been pilfered but he "found" a few things to liberate from it for his car or collection at home.

My issue with it was that he later on put a picture of himself sitting on the cars fender holding a speedo. It showed his name tag on his uniform. Thats just asking for a Article 15 or court marshal if the wrong person sees the photo.

I am not going to go into if its correct or not for him to "liberate" something off of the car but I do not want him getting into trouble either.

That could be a very good reason to delete a thread. Good to hear it's not due to some ideological whining.

Joe. nice of you to look out for (what I assume is) another lister. there isn't that much danger for him though, as the picture you mentioned doesn't prove that he took anything. posing with "the spoils of victory" is not illegal and subsequently not subject to court martial. however, (and this was probably your concern) taking certaing things just might be, depending on what the circumstances are. he obviously didn't appear to complain

Ronin,

I spent too many years overseas in uniform and all it takes is one superior who has a chip on their shoulder to ruin a career. Depending on where and what, most everyone has come home with something to remember their time "in country" but no need to advertise it!

For me its a roll of US Air Force propaganda posters found when we closed down the Tempelhof Air Base in Berlin. It shows the Russian Bear and says that "spies are everywhere" and so on... found in a trash heap and spirited home, its a one of a kind thing that probably cannot be found anywhere these days. At the time taking them from the trash could have been a problem and 15 years later who cares.

Just wanted to watch the back of someone who is protecting our ass overseas! Frankly he deserves to have the whole car but I sure would not say that on the forum where his picture is posted! He can sure use it a lot more than Saddam's sons these days...

true, true. one of my older friends (passed away in 2000) had some nice war trophies himself; AKs and SKSes from Nam. smuggled them back on military hops in his dufflebag. made for some interesting stories

I have friends who did that as well but we do not talk about it much if you know what I mean! This was stopped for the most part later on during 'Nam when they started really searching the personal shipments looking for drugs.

Something about a full rock and roll AK that warms my heart but also really pisses off the neighbours! Wish I had one but also glad at times am very glad that I do not! I have a good friend with a class 3 license and a full rock and roll 9mm Sten. Nice to play with when life and work gets difficult and one needs to blow off steam!

I tell you, one of these days I'm going to make the time to visit a class 3 state for one of those rock-n-roll get-togethers! I haven't experienced that since the military, and then it was very few and far between (mostly with the 60)

btw: forgot to mention earlier. a 46 champ, eh? I have some stick time in one of those!

Any state can be a "class 3 state" as its anyone who fills out the paperwork, pays the $200 for the class 3 permit. I just do not want to be identified as a holder of a "machine gun" with the feds, otherwise would have one myself. My friend with the Sten used to live in WA but now is in the Tampa/St Pete area.

Dillion Precision, the reloading guys, have their HQ here in Scottsdale Airpark, and a Huey with a real mini-gun mounted to the door! Makes for some real interesting displays of firepower. They do govt related work at times and are allowed to "play" with it as needed.

I am an old airplane nut and restore old WW2 era fabric airplanes when the time, space and money permits it. Looking to do another 7AC or other Aeronca this spring and summer so if you are in the area let me know and we might get you some more flight time in one!

Your business is? Depends on what your contract states, if its limiting. I traveled years ago and spent my life in 17 states. Now I travel the world but on a lot more limited basis.

Considering the weather in Seattle right now, do you really need a reason to go South? It was 73 degrees here today and forcast to be warmer tomorrow!

Airplane is down for an annual and 911 is in the final stages of getting a 3.6 transplant so give us some time! March 5-6th would be neat as there is a antique airplane fly-in going on in Casa Grande and lots of old airplanes around then! http://cactusflyin.org/

y'know what. I've been meaning to visit the relatives in Texas soon and I have two weeks coming up in late March - early April. I'll miss the antique fly-in unfortunately, but what the heck. I could stop by on my way back to the coast
