What do you think of the NSX?
 

My brother is getting into sports cars and is considering a Boxster S w/tip (his wife can't drive stick and he can't buy a car she can't drive - that's their deal). His wife eyed an NSX so she asked me what I know about them, which is absolutely nothing. Any advice out there for them?

The NSX's are getting old. In my mind, a Boxster S and NSX are pretty well matched performance-wise. However, comfort-wise, the Boxster wins, hands-down. Especially if you want an automatic/Tiptronic, the Boxster S is the car for you.

About the only thing going for NSXs are their exclusivity. For the money, a 996 easily beats an NSX and a Boxster S is really close. If you like the look and exclusivity of the NSX, buy one. However, if your wife likes comfort and wants a good everyday car, you can't go wrong with a Boxster S.

i once read a review on the early NSX. ironically, the main complaint was that the car was way too easy to drive. everything worked, well balanced, blah, blah, blah. i guess it lacked excitement in the twisties.

They are nice looking I guess. I think it would be the perfect choice for a guy who wants a fast car who handles, but doesnt want to do maintenece, doesnt care about asthetics, and generally doesnt know about cars.

Dont get me wrong, I think its a wonderful car, however it is typical of every other Japanese car I've ever driven, but it just feels cheap to me, like im sitting in a $75K Civic, I mean cmon, they could have done better with the interior.

The fatal flaw with Japanese cars, IMHO, is that they make the cars too good, they dont have any soul or character. Plus, the very distinctive smell of a Honda's interior has always made me naseous. I dont know what it is, but it's always made me sick to my stomach, that smell of cheap plastic and vinyl.

Performance wise, the car is great. (My cousin had one briefly, let me drive it) Plenty of power, 270HP, (Feels like more) awesome handling, great balance. The only thing I DONT like about it performnace wise is the typical overboosted Honda power steering. I mean, granted its not as noticiable as it is in a Civic, but you can still tell it's not got the feeling of the road like it should.

Just the typical Japanese get the engineering right, no asthetic ideology. I remember reading somewhere that Honda spent something in the millions of dollars trying to get rid of a Harely-type exhaust note from their bigger motorcycles back in the day. I think that speaks volumes about how off the mark they were. Granted, it's gotten a lot better as of recent with cars like the S2000 (Which is ****in awesome if you ask me)..

In conclusion, I personally always thought the Mitsu 3000GT VR4 was a more fun car to drive (the rare times I got to drive my stepdad's, guy is 60 years old, decides to buy a sports car for the first time in his life, never takes it over 70.... :rolleyes: )

Still trying to figure out why we never got the Skyline here......

Hmmm, Boxster w/ tip would be my choice.

I've driven an early NSX for a while and have to say with some of the typical modifications... exhaust, chip, intake the car was fun to drive. However, I became bored with it quickly.

Oh, and it went through tires like nobody's business.

Good lord, every grandma and her dog has a Boxster. At least an NSX would be slightly unique.

I think some older NSXs are getting cheap enough that the high end "bling blingers" are starting to go to work on them....Civic - Accord - RSX - NSX seems like the logical progression....

Saw one today, in black. Looked okay but the front proportions didn't quite seem to match the rest of the car. Sort of like those old beetles with the Rolls Royce front ends.

I think the NSX is pretty sexy, and out here in California anyway, the Boxter has surpassed the Miata and the VW Cabriolet as the "daddy's girl chick car"
