LOS ANGELES -- Activists plan a rally outside the U.S. Border Patrol office in Temecula, Calif., Monday to protest two recent immigration sweeps.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security have said the raids in Riverside and San Bernardino counties went against department policy.

Many Hispanic residents across Southern California say hearing that Border Patrol agents traveled more than 100 miles from the border to detail illegal immigrants stoked fear in their communities.

Border Patrol officials say they aren't conducting random raids, but only going into areas where they know there are people who entered the country illegally.

They say their role is to enforce immigration laws, regardless of how far from the border that takes them.

Is very simple here. After you are in LA just a few hours you can pick them out no problem.

I'm pretty sure that a friend of mine living in SF - a New Zealander (by birth) with Sri Lankan parents (ie, he's Sri Lankan looking) - looked exactly the same both before and after he got his green card.

For the avoidance of doubt, he looked "foreign" then and now.

Heres the deal. Everyday between 10,000 to 25,000 people from countries south of the United States cross over our southern border everyday.

I did a lot of farm work growing up. The 'deal' my dad made with me was I could work at home for free, or go out and get a job for someone else and get paid. Either way, my a55 was going to be workin;. I did all kinds of difference stuff. Picking cucumbers, loading sacks of onions in the fields, drving tractors, irrigation, etc etc. From there I moved to timber work (I'd always wanted to be... a Lumberjack!), such as timber surveying, timber marking, falling, etc.

Steve- I totally agree with you on this subject. We have already given amnesty how many times now? Did it greatly improve the quality of life then? No, and it is just turning a blind eye to real problems to come. The problem is that there are the extreme Democrats, who are bleeding hearts and leave water for them in the desert, and put tags on them so when they are found, us citizens (for some reason) are obligated to give them medical attn. In contrast, the Repubs. could give a $hit for their lives, but they view them as nothing more than cheap labor and can capitalize off them. So in a vague nut shell the Dem's are helping line the Rep's pockets in this matter. With both political sides the way they are, unfortionately I dont see things changing anytime soon.:mad:

Steve - I know that you guys have a very difficult problem to deal with. I'm only objecting to you implying that all "foreigners" are illegal aliens. Some people enter the country and work legally. You can't tell this by looking at a person, or even by talking to them.

All this talk about enforcing the speed laws, being racist, paying taxes, you can't tell by looking, yada, yada, completely ignors the issue of the problem the US has with illegal immigration. It is a violation of federal law to be an undocumented alien in the US. Plain and simple.

Growing up I worked many of the jobs that the illegals work today. Because the illegals work these jobs currently, the average american teenager will not. If you think the money earned on American soil is staying here, forget it. Most of the money earned by illegals in America iss sent back across the border to the native country.

The illegal immigration is a major problem and should concern everyone. If you are a law abiding citizen you should be concerned because of the denigration illegals place on society. If you are a legal immigrant you should be concerned becuase it belittles the process you went through to become a documented resident. Illegals give the legal immigrants a bad name.

The illegal problems I have personally seen include turning parts of Los Angeles and Orange County into little TJ, freeways clogged with more traffic, unaccountable drivers, free medical and education to non-taxpayers, higher costs for the penal system, and an increase in crime. Our lawns don't look any better.

One thing I would like to see change is the "citizenship upon birth" law. Now, any child born in the US is an American citizen. I would love to see a law that requires at least one parent to be an American citizen for the child to be an American citizen. Currently, countless numbers of females illegals come to America to give birth so their child is a citizen. Its much harder to deport the parent when the child is a citizen.

Beside having a child in America entitles the child to welfare benefits. At about 500 a month, low income housing, medicare and food stamps they make out better than having a full time job in the south of the border countries. Need a raise, have another kid. The benefit period of 5 years runs, have another kid. If you don't think this is real life, your kidding yourself. I have personally heard welfare workers instruct welfare recipients of how to "make more money" using this scheme. It happens and you and I pay for it in taxes and quality of life.

Illegals also provide a an employer with the means to commit Labor Code violations. It is not uncommon for emploers to make illegals work overtime or for lower than minimum wages with the threat of deportation if they do not.

Sure there are those who immigrate legally. Those individuals seem to come to the US to partake in its opportunities. The others just pollute a country the real Americans have to live in.

I have no problem with rounding them up and dropping them off at the southern most tip of Chile. At least then it would be a little while before they could make it back.

The problem is easy to fix (even for someone with my left-of-centre sensibilities).

If an employer employs someone not legally entitled to work in the US, they should be fined. I eventually found reference to the law that says you can't do it, but not to the penalties. It should be HARSH.

Secondly (and this is the problem), I understand that employers are not permitted to ask directly if someone is legally in the country. This seemed so preposterous I had to check, and found this:

I'm all for racial, age and gender equality, but as far as I am concerned it is not "discrimination" to ask if someone has citizenship and if you will be breaking the law if you hire them.

Lets enforce our immigration and labor laws and hang big 'NO VACANCY' signs at the border.
