The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the average Mexican illegal alien costs U.S. taxpayers a whopping $55,000 each.

That is a cost of $55,000,000,000 to the taxpayer.
The estimated population of the United States is 293,018,819
so each citizen's share of this burden is $187 a year.
For comparison, the domestic debt as of today is $ 7,005,347,601,886

Therefore, the cost of illegal immigration is a drop in the ocean.

Bush is screw'n the pooch, on this one. I mean just how are we going to get cheap labor out of these guys if we can't hold the threat of calling immigration over these people? Then, there is the added cost (to the employer) of income tax, for these people. . .so now these people will have to charge just that much more. --sheesh--

With the large mexican pop. in L.A. he'll have CA wrapped up and I'm not sure if there is a significant amount of Cubans in the southern parts of FL he'll have that state wrapped up, TX is definately voting for him again and he's gonna be going on to another 4 years. I can't say I blame him either, I'd probably do the same if I were in his shoes..........this coming from a Californian who isn't thrilled at the proposal.

This work-permit plan really strikes me as the pretext to booting out the leaches. . .the part of the illegal population that crossed the boarder (into the US) for the "free" programs.

Pushing out the leaches is nothing new. France gave US a Statue under the guise of "friendship." Yet the the subversive action France was after was to have a dumping ground for all of their "poor and downtrodden."

Now we have Vincente Fox calling for an "open border," so that people choose where they want to work. --yeah, that's the ticket.

Gee. . .the left-coast needs a statue too. Maybe rather than a raise torch and a script reading "give US you poor and downtrodden" the script would read "this way to free stuff" and the arm could be lowered to point to California.

I have a problem with illegal aliens no matter the race. Come into this country the right way and I don't have any problem with temorary assistance to get you on your feet. I have a MAJOR problem with people commiting a crime (which is what they are doing) getting free medical, dental, vision, education, housing, food and other benfits and I have to pay for it. Either immigrate correctly, or arrest them, convict them and put them all on busses and planes and send their asses back.

The same goes for the prision population that have cable, work-out facilities, heat, cooling, no or very little responsibilities, conjucal visits, can join a rock band, get a college education etc all for the price of comitting a crime against society.

Yeah I never understood the whole prison system - WTF is going on with all those luxuries? And what's up with the costs - especially new prisons. Seems to me there is a **** load of cheap desert out there they could be a couple mega prisons in. Then force the inmates into labor doing something productive (and free) for society.

Equally impressive are the Sheriff's get tough policies. Arpaio doesn't believe in coddling criminals, frequently saying that jails should not be country clubs. He banned smoking, coffee, pornographic magazines, movies and unrestricted television in all jails. He has the cheapest meals in the country too. The average inmate meal costs under 20 cents.

Ha! I remember this guy! I've seen him on TV here in Aus... We all sat around, nodding, wishing we had someone like him here.

Also under Arpaio, the posse has grown to 3200 members...

And I don't care if those cows are mad...nobody's forcing them to pick lettuce, are they? And we need lots more Sheriff Arpaio's. Prison should be a deterrent to crime. Prison should really suck.

Yeah, boot camp sucked. And Mississippi would make a good prison. We'll just replace it as a state with Iraq. Then the kids will be able to forget that bull***** about spelling "M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i" and just need to learn "i-r-a-q." That'll improve geography scores a bunch. And we'll have cheaper gas prices, too. A win-win scenario, that's what I say!
