Five Batmobiles in a Row
Today I was given the privilege to enter, amidst heavy security, the Warner Bros. corporate archive. This is an enormous warehouse that houses movie and television props. Imagine the last scene of "Raiders of The Lost Arc" but with air-tight sealed costumes from almost every WB movie, parts of prop houses, buildings, Roman facades, props from "The Matrix" movies, robot "animatronics" from sc-fi movies like "Terminator," costumes, original PR posters, and yes, all 5 Batmobiles plus the blue Harry Potter Anglia inside, and you'll get the idea of where I've been.
Of course, one is not allowed to wander around the place. Joel Schumacher himself has put almost a penalty of death on anyone who touches one of the Batman cars, which, btw, is supposedly a 350 V8. Security is super-tight with electric fences and cameras surrounding the building. I'm almost certain one could find an example of their favorite movie in there - I found placards from "The Wild Bunch." I wouldn't be surprised if Dorothy's ruby shoes (or one of the pairs) from the "W of Z" were somewhere there. It's probably one of the best things I've experienced in this industry. |
That's freakin' awesome. Next time sneak in and snap some pics!!!
You could manage it with some fibre optics, I think. ;) |
Blue: If I did anything like that, we'd lose our Warners' license to be sure. LAlso, I'd have Cecil B. DeMille's corpse on my ass, not to mention everyone from Schumacher to Spike Lee, and probably never work in this town again (which I've seen happen to people). I'd love to get a shot, but there is absolutely no way!
Funny thing is I've met Schumacher a couple times. Super nice guy, and very personable. He didn't too badly for a clothes maker to a major H'wood director/player. |
i got the same vibe once when i interned for lady that was commissioned to shoot some interior pictures of Skywalker Ranch. they had a room with a bunch of movie stuff. the Grail diary, the magic wand in "willow", light sabres, yoda. we ended up having to shoot one exterior of a building with a ..what do you call them? big ass water wheel attached to a building to run a mill or something? arrgh i went blank! well george felt the shot will look better with water running through the fake stream. he called his private fire dept to run some hoses and fill the stream. haha.
nice to see how the other half lives every once in awhile. |
And I though this thread was going to be about TransAms. Turned out to be better.
