Dick Vermeil's wife bought him a 911
He says that its a "special edition, only 1800 made". I wonder which one that he got.
Wow. Now thats a good wife. Vermeil's Wife Surprises Him With Porsche DOUG TUCKER Associated Press KANSAS CITY, Mo. - When practice ended for the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, some of the toughest men in the NFL were wiping tears from their eyes. Carol Vermeil, working secretly in concert with Pro Bowl kick returner Dante Hall, shocked everyone when she drove a brand new Porsche 911 onto the middle of the team's indoor practice field. She drove up to where players and coaches were gathered, hopped out and handed the keys to her startled husband of nearly 48 years. "I love you," she told her husband, Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil. "You've always wanted a car like this, so here it is." "I love you, too," Vermeil replied. Said Hall, "It was beautiful, man." All of the Chiefs' players have been treated to Carol's home-cooked meals in their coach's Kansas City apartment, and many became emotional at the tender and unexpected moment. "When that door went up and that beautiful car came onto the field, I figured they were going to give it to Priest Holmes," safety Jerome Woods said. "When she got out and gave him the keys and said, `I love you,' I shed a tear. A lot of us shed tears." The sale price of the car is about $100,000. "Carol said he had always wanted a car like that but he'd never had one," Hall said. "She bought it for him as a gift. He had no idea what was going on." Only a couple of team officials and Hall knew of the scheme. Hall tiptoed away and opened the big door into the facility as Vermeil was addressing the group. "I practically grew up in a garage," Vermeil said later. "I always wanted to be a race driver and then I went into football. I always said, `Someday I'm going to own a Porsche.'" Like Woods, Vermeil figured the car was a gift from owner Lamar Hunt to one of the players who helped the Chiefs to a 13-3 record this year and the AFC West championship. "I didn't see her driving it. I was getting out of the way," he said. "I saw her get out of the car and I was shocked. She said, `This is something you always wanted. Here it is.'" The Vermeils have three children and 11 grandchildren and will mark their 48th marriage anniversary later this month. They've been in love, Dick Vermeil once said, since they were in grade school in Calistoga, Calif., passing notes in class. |
